It would be a hard, hard fight. But I have no doubts at all that, barring something unforeseen taking place, Whitaker would take a decision.

This fight is interesting. Whitaker never faced anyone like Pryor. Chavez may have had a better offense than Pryor, but he didn't have Pryor's speed and pressure. Trinidad hit harder than Pryor, but does not have Pryor's work rate. Nelson may have been unorthodox, but no where near as active and was smaller than Pryor.

There was only one Sweet Pea, so this is going to be an experience like Pryor never dealt with either.

Whitaker would exploit the openings in Pryor's defense, and land the cleaner punches the entire fight. Whitaker frequently averaged over 70 puncher per round, so I don't believe Pryor is going to overwhelm him here.

    Whitaker by unanimous decision.

I'm surprised that so many picks Pryor to win this. In my opinion he's pretty overrated if you look at his competition. I mean, his best wins was against an over-the-hill Cervantes (still good though) and Arguello who was 5-10 pounds above his best weight and on top of that I've always taught Arguellos flat-footed style suited Pryor perfectly.

Whitaker had a much better record competition-wise and I think he wins this matchup. Certainly not by knockout but say something like 9-6 or 10-5 with some early rounds being even before Pea figures him out.

Although Arguello was a hero of mine, and yes I agree that 140 wasn't his optimal weight, I give a lot of credit to Pryor. He had to be amazing to win that fight. I don't know what was in Panama Lewis' bottle, so I'll just go on what my eyes saw. Arguello blasted out Billy Costello at that weight and hit Pryor with some bombs. I have no doubt Sweet Pea would hit Pryror with a lot of clean shots. When I picture this fight, I see Sweet Pea crouching low and trying all the funk that befuddled a lot of excellent fighters. I also see Pryor just boring in and doing whatever is necessary, punching whatever is available to him, and most importantly, being quick enough to do so.
I just think Pryor would be able to force that moment of truth, where there's nothing left to do but fight, much more often than Sweet Pea was used to.

whitaker edges pryor via ud in a close decision (judging from footages and fights of whitaker at 140lbs, whitaker pineda for example) and pryors stay at 140lbs
