I was wondering what is a typical purse for a Live British or Comonwealth title fight. For example What would John Simposn have recieved for his win on Friday and was the amount Tom Glover got for the fight with John O'Donnell decreased becasue the Commonwealth belt was no longer on the line? I had always believed that defending these belts was quite lucrative but the fact that Danny Williams is risking his British Title and what reputation he has left for £30,000 makes me think otherwise. Why did he not just wait for the winner and fight them for the title? I remember reading a story that Carl Thompson never defended his British Cruiserweight title because he was never offered more the £5,000 to do so!
I found out that Chris Arreola got 250k for his defense of the American title against Jameel McCline at Mandalay Bay. Given that most of the venues that host British title fights are small halls like York Hall and only house around 1500 at best I wonder if any British fighter has ever recieved that amount for defending a British or Commonwealth title? Lennox Lewis when he fought Razor Ruddock perhaps? Also i wonder how boxers in the lower weights get on? For example how would someone like Chris Edwards do financialy toping the bill defending his British and Commonwelath titles compared to say James Degale fighting an easy 4 rounder but with an Olympic gold under his belt?

Wow 6 figures for a 21 year old with only 13 fights, his team have done very well to negotiate that, especially considering Jennings apparently only recieved £100,000 for his world title shot with Cotto
Its not that surprising TBH, if a boxer has the belt and his willing to defend in the challengers back yard then he usually holds all the cards when the negotiations start.
Yeah but given it was not a PPV fight, the Ulster Hall is far from the biggest veune in Northern Ireland and that there were other options for Lindsey, I would say 6 figures was superb and possible the largest amount a British figher has recieved for a domestic defense in 2009
I wasnt a 6 figure sum a member of applebys family said it was nowere near that. i know simpson personally actually bumped into him today he was getting his wisdom tooth out but i know defending the commonwealth is significuntly less than defending the british title.
