You guys are cracking me up! I asked a question abut a movie, and Klompton got his panties all in a bunch. I've never seen Graziano on any credible list of all time great middleweights. When he shows up on one, go ahead and *****. Until then, shush!
There are plenty of fighters who didn´t fight at their lowest possible weight for different reasons. Money maybe one of them. I know ther was no lmw division then. I used that to express that Graziano was no big mw himself. He did not have a LaMotta-like advantage over his opponents. So, Zale´s wins aren´t worth anything then by your logic. :good
Yes i agree , that on a historical level he would not rank well at all... But as a dispenser of excitement, the young [pre Zale] Graziano was the most viscerally thrilling fighter i ever saw.By far. With young Rocky you didn't need a referee, the warden would do...
Never saw Lew when he WASN'T fighting...in the street, in the bar, you name it. His right hand had a mind of it's own.
No, a little before my time. But I have heard he was a "bag of bones", who was a murderous puncher, especially with his laser right hand. My dad who drove a cab in NY picked Lou Ambers leaving MSG in 1941,after Jenkins kod the rugged Ambers, for the second time. Ambers kept muttering to his handler, "i aint got it no more ".It was Lou Ambers last fight and he was only kod twice in 100 bouts, both by Lew Jenkins.
Alcohol and motorcycles were his undoing..Fritzie Zivic ,no shrinking violet himself said after fighting Lew Jenkins, " Lew Jenkins could start a fight in an empty room ".Tough ******* was LEW !
Thanks guys, he seems to be one of the most interesting characters in boxing. His part in "in this corner" was the most entertaining IMO.
