I'm from Wales and I like Hatton much more. You'll find a lot of people in Wales (mainly Cardiff, the capital) can't stand Calzaghe. This is mainly due to two reasons: 1. Never fought anyone decent until too late in his career 2. Guy is a wanker. Has been an absolute **** on numerous occassions when seen out and about. Outside of Cardiff, he's the greatest thing since sliced bread since most Welsh people are extrememly patriotic. Most of these people have no clue about sport, but get behind whoever is Welsh, which I guess is pretty admirable.
He was equally entertaining outside the ring as in. He & his family should have had their own show, they were funny people.....& nice people.
Sadly it is the English v Welsh thing. Back in the early 80's there was a fighter from Wales called Colin Jones, and his style was similar to Hattons though a bit more educated. He however didn't get the recognition that any English fighter in any weight division of that era got, even though he fought guys like Kirkland Laing, Milton McCrory, and Don Curry.
personally i'm more likely to support a boxer due to there personality out of the ring. Or for there courage in the Ring. As opposed to just Talent. I loved Hatons Personality, his Courage in the ring, and the way he would take on the best. That's why.
