It's not being awkward it's being accurate. Like when we have to correct people who think Hatton is the second coming of Roberto Duran.:rofl
Its being awkward Dan and you know it, but yeah I know what you mean, we had a similar problem with Witter getting compared to Mayweather. Its all blown over now though.
I know looking back its hard to believe but plenty on here had drawn up a ****ed up formline that showed that because Hatton had lost to Mayweather and Witters style was like Mayweathers, that Hatton would get KO'd against Witter....:nut
Well he may well have done but it wouldn't have been because his style was similair to PBF's. We'll never know now though. I hope we never have another situation where the top two men in Britain in the same division don't fight each other for 7 years. Surely we all agree thats not a good thing.
It really wasn't a big deal for me. I'd have liked to see the fight when Hatton was defending the WBU strap but it didn't happen and Hattons career moved on after Zoo.
Sure its not, you want the top men to fight each other. I wanted a Hatton-Witter fight back in the WBU and I think there was more interest among the general public for it back then than there was after the Mayweather fight. But after Zoo Hattons record and career has been good enough to not need Junior Witters name on it.
But this is my mates main gripe with boxing & why he can't get into it despite my efforts. He says at least with football, despite all the pontificating, you get to see everone face each other every year whereas in boxing you get fighters talking about being the best for years but never fighting each other. De La Hoya avoiding Wright being another good example.
Boxing these days is too complicated to get into casually. Theres too many titles, too many ways to get to a world title. When I was a kid a British fighter won Brit title, maybe the Commonwealth, then the Euro, then a top yank before getting his title shot. Hatton-Witter would have had to happen at Euro level for one of the two to progress his career.
That said it didn't stop Watson, Eubank & Benn squaring off on more than one occassion. No I think it's more to do with a certain mans monopoly over the sport in this country that stops these fights coming together. Plus people reneging on contractual obligations never helps.
If he beats Malignaggi I would like to then see him fight Bradley or Torres. Then if he comes through that I would like to see him fight Pacquiao. I've said before that I thought it would be a mismatch but listening to the Hatton fight on the radio the other night it sounded like Lazcano was hurting Hatton. So if Pacman was successful @ 135 maybe it wouldn't be a one sided fight against Hatton.
How much credence can we actually pay this supposed 3 fight plan? I seem to remember Ray saying there would be 5 more fights after the PBF fight.
