I believe he does hold titles in 3 weight division simultaneously. That was what Armstrong was most famous for, was it not? -not a Canelo fan, but not a pointless hater either . I was actually hoping GG would knock him out, but he never came close
I don't count Rocky Fielding's belt as a legit world title. Now cue some Canelo super fan crying about Golovkin's fake defences record which I don't think is real either due to the bogus nature of his interim belt he held when making a lot of those.
LOL, Armstrong did that when there were only 8 divisions and 1 champ per division. Similar, but the differences really separate their accomplishments.
Robbery win over way past prime GGG at 160 Win over Rocky Fielding at 168 Win over shot Kovalev at 175 vs Win over Petey Sarron at 126 Win over Barny Ross at 147 Win over Lou Ambers at 135 Sarron's final record 104-23-12 only stopped once and that was by Armstrong Barny Ross final record 72-4-3, ranked #21 by The Ring in their Best Fighters of the Last 80 years feature from 2002) never stopped Lou Ambers final record 89-8-7, stopped only twice
Why wouldn’t he?. He won the belt Ward vacated for retiring. Do you expect these titles to become irrelevant forever after Ward retires?.
Although he holds a title in 3 weight classes, he’s really only a world champion in one (Middleweight). I think Canelo’s a great fighter, but he’s not on Armstrong’s level. I just didn’t care for the hyperbole of the promotion trying to put his accomplishment on the same level as Armstrong’s. It’s not even close and any objective boxing fan should agree. Three things will NEVER happen again in boxing. 1. A World Champion simultaneously ruling over 3 of the original 8 weight classes. Forget the fact that Armstrong nearly added a 4th title but settled for a draw against Ceferino Garcia. 2. 17 year old World Champion...Benitez. 3. 20 year old HW champion...Tyson.
