Now how in the **** are you going to state this without indicating that a prime Joe Calzaghe is a faster mover, had never been down and hit with more power? Dude, I love Hopkins, have done for ages - he got robbed against Taylor. This fight wasn't close. It was 115-112 at best for Hopkins.
After the fight Joe said he wasnt hurt. He was then asked...You werent hurt??? He then said, laughing, of course I was hurt...then went on to say he recovered quickly tho. Why is this too tough for people to admit??? EVEN THE FIGHTER STATED HE WAS HURT!!!!!!
GUys are making it sound as if i said joe has a glass chin! THere isn't just "glass chin" and "iron chin".
What are you trying to imply by "hurt" Was he shocked enough that he went down, yes. Was he stunned enough afterwards that Hopkin's could go to town on him for the rest of the round? No. Forget the 5 seconds that the knock down occured in, had the knock down not occured, who had that round?
Calzaghe gets terribly underated here It's like he is going to fight lacy so he is going to get ko'd Kessler is going to retire him Then hopkins is going to beat him Now after a snoozer against an aged blown up tito, all of a sudden roy jones is going to turn the clock back and ko joe. Something that has never been done. well hell he aint never lost :deal Just because an off balance, flash knockdown from bhop atsch Keep all betting against joe, hopefully this will give us better odds come fight time :hey
I thought Cal would win all those fights prior to fight nite, except the one against Lacy, which he proved me so very wrong
When Hopkins pressed forward and threw in better workrate, it allowed Calzaghe more openings and Calzaghe landed and won 'most' of the exchanges, there were a few instances when Hopkins won some exchanges also, but overall, he he pressed forward, Calzaghe held the ground better and landed more shots, showcasing better inside craft in this bout. What are you talking about? Hopkins' best rounds were making Calzaghe come at him and landing the bigger shots(counters). It was not a close fight, people don't know how to score fights and many were WANTING Hopkins to win and not viewing the fight for what it is. Why was he up at 3 completely unphased? That's not hurt, maybe he was buzzed, but he was off balance more so than anything and it was a pin-point shot that put him down. If he was hurt, he'd have been in trouble, he wasn't. Did I say he wouldn't? I said Calzaghe would 'end up nullifying it', by way of adjustment and that prime to prime it'd be a close fight. Calzaghe tired Hopkins out, won 5 rounds in a row and dominated the action for a longer stretch, that's the first time you have ever seen this in a Hopkins fight and this was the same conservative version of Hopkins that fought Taylor, Tarver and Wright, the past prime, conservative version. 8-4 is acceptable, any less is ridiculous, 9-3 is a good, accurate score and most people who are proficient at scoring bouts had it this way, from both Hopkins and Calzaghe fans alike. It's a total myth that it was a close fight. The KD threw people off.
Because Calzaghe was much, MUCH faster....as was Bernard. But the thing is, Joe also has always been lacking defensively (tho I do believe his defense is far underrated). Throughout his career he was always open to lead or counter right hands...its why I was able to PREDICT a KD for Bernard before the fight even happened. Here is a link to my breakdown of the fight. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59827&highlight=hopkins+calzaghe+breakdown I thought the KD would happen later in the fight...but I predicted it would happen...and it did. This was on analysis of both fighters...not one fighters strengths and ignoring the others. Listen, I am a huge Calzaghe fan...I have pretty much seen his whole career. Followed him since his win vs Eubank (and went back and watched as many fights as I could find before it)...and he was always suceptable to a lead right...and NOONE had a better lead right (arguably EVER) than a PRIME Bernard Hopkins. THAT, is how in the **** (your words) I can state this without mentioning Joe's speed...because Bernard didnt land it because of Joe's speed or lack there of....he landed it because of timing. The best weapon against speed is timing... :good
I stopped reading after this... Calzaghe is one of my all time favorite fighters...and even I think that statement is laughable. Sure there are some ridiculous haters (I attest this to the fact they probably never saw him fight before Lacy)...but for every one of them, there are 20 nuthuggers (god I hate that word) riding his nuts. Calzaghe and underrated (which I think he is on a worldwide level) and EASTSIDE BOXING = 3 words that should NEVER be in the same sentance.
I'm of the same opinion but I can see that many people felt Calzaghe nicked it and I'm not going to say anything bad about them.
It was apparent that Calzaghe was fighting wild and if Hopkins would've just took the neccessary risk and been a bit more aggressive towards the end, i'm sure that he would've been able to change the outcome of the fight. His right hand was getting in there on Calzaghe whenever he wanted, yet he didn't use it enough down the stretch ... hell he didn't do much of anything down the stretch. Jones will do whats neccessary to take Calzaghe out of there ... as much as the word "greatness" is used when mentioning Calzaghe - i've only seen a handfull of times when he fought under control and poised.
Bottom line ... If Hopkins wouldve listened to Roach and took more risks ... he wouldve been the winner instead of Calzaghe ... I woulda thought that flash knockdown wouldve gave him motivation down the stretch ... At times like Hatton ... Calzaghe just walks into some **** and always is open during an exchange.
