its a good fight.. and if its top rank vs gbp ill be happy were making more progress. we just had loma/grj.. so maybe things are takin a turn for the better. because last time top rank /gbp did anything together was lara/vanes.. and before that i dont remember. i was shocked vanes/lara even happened cuz the cold war was going on during that fight i thought.. but it was at its mild stage i guess.
Korobov by TKO. He'd dominate Quillin 9-3 if it goes to decision, but I see a mid-round TKO by Korobov. Quillin is just not that good.
It's a kinda good fight - one that oughta happen to help clarify the level of both fighters. Fun? I ain't so sure - TBH I can see something of a snoozefest. Mattvey has better skills than Quillin but his tendency to just take rounds off and his seeming inability to press the kill switch could well be his downfall. I voted for a Korobov decision, but I can see it being a close one - possibly depending on who wins the purse bid.
When pushed, both guys are capable of being in exciting fights. Quillin with Rosado, N'Dam, Guerrero and Korobov had a fun fight to watch against Derek Edwards who's alot more like Quillin than Uzcategui would be. I'm interested in how the negotiations turn out. Haymon/GB learned from Lomochenko-Russell that their fighter will only get 40% of the purse if it goes to purse bid. So either they might not want this to goto purse bid because they could lose money, or they abandon Peter and let TR take this to HBO where it belongs.
That was a vacant belt though this is a mandatory challenger the split may be a little less but i assume the champ would make over 50% regardless. Since Quillin isn't actually signed with Golden Boy maybe Oscar is happy to let Top Rank take the lead to set an example for the Haymon loyalists? If you're not actually GB fighters then your career isn't going to be built with our resources. Why the hell would they?
Ah forgot, yeah the vacant title stipulation. Quillin wasn't willing to fight Macklin, Mora, or Jacobs, can't imagine he'll be too happy being forced to fight Korobov.
They showcased Lemieux on Showtime against a common opponent in Guerrero to set up a Quillin fight but after the destruction Quillin's team backed away from that notion. This according to his promoter Yvon Michelle. Fortunately it's a mandatory so it will happen or he can give up that paper title, N'Dam was awarded the title outside the ring without even having to fight for a vacant belt.
N'Dam winning the WBO against Bursak was an atrocity, especially since Pirog tried to fight him during that period of time and as N'Dam was vacating the WBA title to avoid Golovkin. Flat out shame. Atleast when Pirog won the WBO title he immediately tried to fight Martinez. I liked how Danny Jacobs was recently quoted saying that once he beats Fletcher he'll be a champion like Quillin. I wonder which direction Lemieux will go now? He he passed on the IBF eliminator when it was with Sturm, he wanted to go after Quillin, then talk of Macklin, , I know Macklin is claiming to leave Dibella for Hearn and there's talk about Lee vs Mack again.
Exactly this! He's been defending his paper title against **** competition. At least Korobov is a small step in the right direction. I didn't see a lot in Korobov against Uzcategui (in which he could beat Golovkin), but I think he has enough to defeat the limited Quillin. It'll be cool to see him defeat Quillin and then defend against Lemieux though.
Seems like Stevens took the IBF eliminator but is waiting for an opponent since Sturm declined. It would be ideal if they asked Lemieux again since the Quillin fight fell through but if not i would like to see him against Tureano Johnson who was mauling Stevens and show real toughness. We'll see how much Lemieux has really improved with a guy who won't go away and get a new legit contender out of it. Who is Johnson's promoter? He deserves another oppertunity
Last I heard Stevens-N'Dam was signed for September. Tureano Johnson is promoted by Gary Shaw and fights again this month in a comeback fight. Johnson-Lemieux would be a good one and we'd see how much Lemieux has truly progressed since he fought Rubio. I think David is an overall better fighter than Stevens and would be able to get to Johnson early and not let Johnson take over the fight like Stevens did.
