Terrible news, exellent fighter. Violent crime is rampant the world over. Its pretty bad when stopping to put air in your tire and you get killed.

I know. This took the wind right out of me like a bolo punch to diaphragm. I haven't even gotten dressed yet.

It had to be 20 or so years ago but I remember Roger Mayweather (who had trained with Vernon in ATL area) telling me that he KNEW Vernon was going to be champ someday.....

I think the reason why this death hurts me even more than Gatti's or Arguello was the fact that the Viper was still an active fighter, and a very good one at that.

He'll be remembered for the manner in which he dominated Mosley in the first fight, for the way he came back nicely after the two losses to Mayorga and the loss to Mora, and for the extremely classy manner in which he always seemed to conduct himself during his interviews.

    RIP Viper. You'll be missed.

Why couldn't he let his pride fall, let the guy take his car and call insurance afterwards? Had to pull out a gun and protect his **** and ended up getting wrecked for it.

This isn't the thread to be quarterbacking a scenario, which no one knew was going to turn tragic. How do you know that the animals who were going to take his stuff weren't going to do something to get rid of eyewitnesses? Either way, those worthless scumbags should be burned alive.
