The irony is that I find myself defending the Eastern Euros to people who aren't quite hip to what's going on in boxing. The original poster spoke of a guy who's obviously ignorant about the state of heavyweight boxing. This is very common. I encounter idiots like that all the time. I'm no fool, I call it as I see it. The Eastern European heavyweights OWN our asses over the past few years and this will be a sustained dominance.

Oh lord, sometimes i wonder why ESB doesn't have a '****** detector' before people sign in because this dumbass post just personifies why it's needed  , there's no damn doubt about it Russia has serious problems with racism, whether it's against Asians or black people it's all the same, the neo Nazi's are very active around football clubs and it's a disgrace how that police just let's them get away with it, i think it's funny how white dudes have the nerve to moan about people using this so called "race card", read a ****ing history book and watch the news and maybe your punkass might fathom why we play it on occasions.

    Russian racism 'out of control'

Some Roma families are too scared to go into St Petersburg (photo: Amnesty)
Racist killings in Russia are "out of control", according to a report by international human rights watchdog Amnesty International.
The report into violent racism shows that at least 28 people were killed and 366 were assaulted in 2005.

This year there have already been a number of high-profile cases, including the death of a Senegalese student.

Amnesty condemns discrimination by the authorities and a failure to properly record or investigate racist crimes.

Russia's police and prosecutors need to tackle head-on the growing scourge of violent racism in Russia

    Kate Allen
    Amnesty International

    Attacks that stain Russia

The Amnesty report, entitled "Russian Federation: Violent racism out of control", includes examples of police and prosecutors routinely classifying murders and serious assaults by skinhead extremists as lesser crimes of "hooliganism".

Amnesty International UK Director Kate Allen said racist killings and violent attacks against foreigners, visible ethnic minorities and anti-racist campaigners in Russia were out of control.

"Some Russian authorities are turning a blind eye," she said. "Instead of seeing only 'hooliganism' in vicious organised attacks on students from African, south-east Asian countries and non-Slavic Russians from Chechnya, Russia's police and prosecutors need to tackle head-on the growing scourge of violent racism in Russia."

She said President Vladimir Putin's government should adopt a comprehensive "plan of action" to combat racism and anti-Semitism.

    Protests

Cases highlighted in the Amnesty report include the killing of nine-year-old Tajik girl Khursheda Sultonov.

    Living with race hate

She was attacked with other members of her family in St Petersburg in February 2004 by a gang. Khursheda was stabbed nine times in the chest, stomach and arms and died at the scene.

Another victim was Vu Anh Tuan, a 20-year-old Vietnamese student, stabbed to death in October 2004 by a gang of 18 skinheads near a metro station in St Petersburg.

Dmitri Krayukhin, head of anti-racist organisation United Europe, told Amnesty he had received threats to "cut off your head".

He has repeatedly been denied protection from the authorities in Orel, western Russia.

The report also heard from members of the Roma community who have stopped travelling into St Petersburg city centre, having been the victims of attacks.

Russian citizens and foreigners living in the big cities have led demonstrations against the attacks and the authorities' failure to tackle the problem.

Racism will never go away, people need to stop being so sensitive about it and just get use to it.

Who hasnt been a victim at one time? Im not saying I experience day in day out, but yes I been told by a police officer not come around a certain area because I was white. The officer told me theres no reason I should be in this nieghborhood unless Im looking for drugs or prostitutes, and trust me I wasnt looking for either.

Funny, the thread starter is one of a surfeit of white posters who **** and moan about anti-Euro and anti-white bias at the drop of a hat on this forum, but it's a poster who stated a pretty well-known and easily verfiable fact who draws a bunch of comments about oversensitivity.

Some of the responses in the thread regarding the racial climate in Eastern Europe are so ****ing ludicrous its mind boggling. Especially, Odo's post, but it's pretty much par for the course from him. The plight of blacks, Asians and ethnic minorities from the Caucasus region in Russia and other Eastern bloc countries is pretty well documented, but I guess you can chalk that one up to the ultra biased left-wing international media attacking white people for no reason as usual.

I don't even know why I bother responding to this ****ing nonsense.

    For an African of course?
    Backward Continent?
Grateful to be allowed to live in Russia?

Small millitant groups and gangs of young criminals who don't hesitate to attack a foreigner because of the color of his skin.

This doesnt sound very promising, hardly a land of opportunity especially since your wording seems to condescend on the African immigrants that have moved to your country (I'm assuming you live in Russia).

By the way it is a two way street, Many Eastern Europeans that move to some African Nations do so illegally and bribe (whenever possible) and marry hookers (not for sex or love) but to obtain work permits so they can further exploit thier host nation.

By the way Rosseboi - Africa is a Continent, not a country so your the law of averages is slightly off buddy.

    Anyway regarding the original post;

The answer is simple, Eastern Bloc fighters suffer from inadequate coverage on the American landscape where most of the money is made. People are not going to support a fighter of which they know absolutely nothing about unless they share a similar heritage. Wladimir Klitschko is slowing breaking down barriers in that regard for the Heavyweights simply because at the current time he is the best HW fighter out there. He has not yet reached the crossover status in America. Boxing is not economically driven by hardcore fans that follow boxing closely. Boxing is driven by the casual fan, and has always been fueled by nationalistic pride. Mexican fighters have a multitude of Mexican/Mexican American fans that buy tickets, PPVs and support thier fellow countryman. Same with Puerto Rican Fans. There is a large Puerto Rican population in New York, which is why Trinidad and Cotto have always overwhelming support at the Garden.

So its not racism, its for lack of a better word, ignorance. Most casual fans don't know what most Eastern European fighters have to offer consequently, most casual fans are not going care enough to find out and hence the perceived hatred.

Its not rough at all, racism just doesnt effect a certain type of person, it effects everyone. I just wish people would stop crying about it and get over it, me and alot of other people could give a **** less about it.

Jesus Christ, a guy who can't even draw simple literary inferences thinks he has license to lecture the rest of the world on how they should think and feel. That's....special.

I know that wasn't a rough story guy. My response was ****ing sarcasm. Considering that the was most heart-wrenching 'racism' story that you could muster up, I'd like to ask you if you've ever considered the fact that some groups of people have very different life experiences than you do as a white male? Experiences that they can't simply "get over" just because they're advised to in an authoritative manner.

Well, I would ask you that question, but then you'd probably take this response as me blaming you personally for all my problems and grace me with an exhortation to kindly shut the **** up about them, so I'm just going to cut my losses and leave this thread.

i want to make a few small comments here....

about racism in russia because i was born in the soviet union and am of jewish hertage. my family experienced alot of racism/anti-semitism so we moved.
some of the insults came because of the regelion side of judasim and the other because jews are of middle eastern roots.
so there alot of were always comments about our dark hair, big noses etc
this being the least our troubles.

now the people doing this to jews and other non ethnic russians were and are a stupid minority and most russians are not like this but the saying goes a rotten apple can spoil the whole bunch.

i am mentioning mere facts and racism is a world wide agenda, whites vs blacks, russians vs other soviet peoples, arabs vs persians....this is everywhere so there is no need to focus on any group.

i was just talking for a sports point of view, maybe some russians don't like blacks but hey alot of jews, arabs, germans, greeks etc also don't like blacks and vice versa alot of these groups also don't like each other. so the point is mute.

but when you go to boxing side of things, the great black and hispanic fighters are greatly admired by russians. many people their look up to mike tyson, holyfield,de la hoya, roy jones etc the usual stars of boxing.
how do i know this i visited russia 9 mouths ago. the gyms there had tons of pictures of black fighters of the past like ezzard charles to modern ones like hopkins.
so in a boxing sense russians are not racist, even tyson said they treated him very well.

now as far as styles go, i will admit that the american-hispanic styles are much more fun to watch and in a way they are more preety and exciting.
but on the other hand, russian style of boxing is safer for your body and brain because you tend to be in less risks.
