1.Muhammad Ali 2.Roy Jones Jr 3.Lennox Lewis 4.Mike Tyson 5.Oscar De La Hoya 6.Shane Mosley 7.Chris Eubank 8.Nigel Benn 9.Ricky Hatton 10.Prince Naseem Hamed Why did you choose those ten?
Not really, the top three are pretty obvious for me, only choice there is RJJ or Lennox for the #2. However, I don't think that many Americans have much love for Eubank.
Eubank's overall career doesn't do his talent justice - after all, you can only really judge him on his accomplishments. These were - two weight WBO champion and challenger at cruiser - at the time when the WBO was a fringe title. He had the talent to do so much more, but the second fight with Watson wrecked him (by his own admission). He beat Benn once in an amazing performance, though was gifted a draw in the second. IMO he spent too much time showboating to UD's against chumps instead of taking on real challenges - hence why people generally consider Benn the better fighter. I can't split them - add Ricky Hatton to that as well, all three have plenty of good points and the odd bad one.
Because they are my top ten favourite fighters and I was interested to know what other ESBers thought of them
Thanks for that opinion on Eubank, I was under the impression he did a little bit more than that, he was certainly a charecter though!
Cool. I am a fan of most of them, not so keen on Mosley, Hatton or Hamed, but that's just me. I am a big RJJ, Lewis, Eubank and Benn man myself. Do you agree or disagree with my order of the ten?
Mosely just seems like an awsome guy, the fact that he is actually willing to face Margarito is something you don't really see all that often with fighters who are always looking for the easy option. TBH, I'm pretty new to the sport so I can't really make a strong argument for who should go where on peoples lists, but I do know that Lennox achived a hell of a lot and generally his style and ability have impressed me more than most fighters that I've seen. In terms of athletic ability and raw talent I would put Naseem Hamed right up there, but it seems he lost the motivation to build a legacy after the defeat to Barrera, which is a shame, but I believe I'm right in thinking Hamed still achived quite a lot and was a great advert for the sport in general. Our lists are very similar, I gave Hamed the benefit of the doubt and put him a bit higher, from what Beeston mentioned about Eubank I would now swap him and Benn around (I was always under the impression Eubank had a better record than Benn - turns out I was wrong it would seem).
