Most people won't say Rocky Marciano ... and I think that's because his style can be a ugly, he's not 'cute', and he has no flash or phenomenal speed. But he looks just as good as anyone, imo.
I like the second Walcott fight personally. Do we have footage of pep beating saddler? Let's say pep gets 10 out of 10 for footage, what would you score the quality of his opponent faced in said footage. Then taking an average there is he still a lock for top 10?
I sort of agree actually and this is why I started the thread. People buzz off floyd's skill but his domination isn't proven at the top level. He has nothing that can remotely compare to kalambay shutting out mccallum. I think he certainly compares to pep schooling famechon (Corrales is atleast that good).
Beating a guy of that stature in that fashion is amazing. Whether it's amongst the top ten remains to be seen. On my list i rank it above pep for what that's worth.
Any eye test that doesn't have Whitaker in the top 5 needs glasses imo.. any eye test that doesn't have whitaker in the top 10.. are well beyond needing glasses because they are blind and should stop talking about boxing.
Nah. Because that Tyson didn't look that good. Douglas was knocked down heavily as well. Sumbu was barely even tagged. Also, I don't go on one fight. Kalambay has a few where he sufficiently proved his skillset (in my eyes, literally in this case) Douglas fell to bits against Tucker and sent Notorious B.I.G in his place against Holyfield.
Well to be fair even though he was dropped Douglas kicked the **** out of Tyson far worse than McCallum. Gave him a bashing. I would suggest luf that you have it over multiple outings to ignore lightning in a bottle type encounters to gauge it better. Three maybe? All the 'i've pissed myself he's so good' guys have multiple fights of ass kickery- Whitaker, Jones, Duran, Ali.
Thing is with Douglas, he looked very good but suffered a knockdown and came within a whisker of being stopped. Tyson didnt look great but we could say that's because of how good Douglas fought. but Douglas, of nothing else proved that he could fight great that night. A lot of heavyweights fare better though because they have their utter restrictions of greats to fall back on.
I think that's a cracking idea. Say their best 3 performances. I like that and it does allow a degree of consistency to play a part.
Well Kalambay looks damn fine against McCallum twice and Barkley. Or you can chuck in the first Graham fight instead of McCallum rematch if you only wanna' go with official wins.
I think little red is right though. We should try to exclude lightning in a bottle incidents. Kinda hampers the guys with limited footage but I guess some allowances can be made for them based on writeups etc. Which puts pep right back in the running. You know what I mean though, sometimes basing lists on data is tedious and boring. Watching guys and trusting your own jugement is more enjoyable.
Yes. Which is why I would never consider Chan-Hee Park despite his incredible showing in the first fight with Canto.
