Rare fight films

Has anyone ever heard of footage from an amateur fight between Roy Jones Jr. and Gerald McClellan?

 

Sweetfights is ok in my book. Did a few trades with him.

 

Jarrod aka Sweetfights is a real class act, good friend of mine.

 

Is it as dramatic as the 1st fight between them? Several rounds of that one were among the most exciting I've ever seen.

 

Yeah, I forgot about that one. There are highlights of that one too, of course (the longest version I have being 4 min long).

 

Emanuel Steward claimed to have it, but didn't provide anything as a proof for his words.

 

Intersting find. It makes you wonder what else is out there. If the film quality is good, I think this E-bay guy can get his $1,500.00

Film on Papke is limited, and I have never seen anyting on Moreau.

 

ESPN Classic deserves a kick in the rear. Not only do they have a great fight selection which they shelf, but they butcher some of the fights they air, as the narrator gets the facts and numbers wrong. This gives the viewers mixed emotions. I am glad they are airing something. I'm also upset that they are holding back what they have and frustrated at the narrator getting the facts and numbers wrong on some of the fights they air.

I understand why ESPN Classic is gun shy about showing some fights, but at the same time ESPN classic is a business, not a private collector. It they bought Bill Clayton's collection for nearly 100 million dollars, they can not turn a profit on that investment by showing Ali vs Foreman every month.

If you know someone who works for them, please pass along this businesses proposition. Why not show their collection in the Boxing Hall of Fame or Museums? All they would need to do show the fights in a movie theater, and sell tickets. This would give ESPN classic a controlled environment for boxing fans to see their best stuff, with less fear of the fights being sold on E-bay or put up for free on you tube.

I'd pay well over a movie ticket value to see some fights they claim to have.

PS: Is it possible to see a list of what they purchased?

When Espn airs old fights like from the Dempsey era. Its amazing how many rounds they get mix up.

Round 12 of Johnson Jeff was relly round 13.
Round 1 of Dempsey Carp was Round 2.
Round ten of Dempsey Tunney 1 was parts of round 4.

 

Another bout I am looking for is the 1st Arnold Taylor vs Romeo Anaya fight which was held in South Africa. I have a ten minute HL of this fight and it is a terrific scrap, but I am looking for a complete copy. If anyone here has a copy or knows where to get one I would be willing to trade for it, just send me a pm if you have some information concerning this fight.

Eder was in control throughout the fight in the rematch, and outboxed Jose until he decided to open up in the 6th to end matters and did just that with a right hand that dropped Medel for the count.

 

I forgot to add that Jofre dropped him hard in the 5th as well, and Jose barely made it out of the round.

I actually have a 3min. highlight of Emile Griffith against "Gipsy" Joe Harris. It shows round 7 in its entirety, and it is silent but in colour with a beautiful picture quality. I don`t quite know what to make of Joe`s style except to say that he was one awkward fighter to say the least... the way he leaned away from punches was quite comical actually, he looked almost like the rubberman.
