I think it shows how disappointing Mayweather's career has been given his undoubted talent that people talk about a win over Arturo ****ing Gatti as being amongst his best.
Just becfause you beat someone faster doesn't automatically mean it was better or more impressive. A 12 round clinc can be equally or if not more impressive than a 2 round KO and is far more damaging to the fighter's confidence and psyche.:deal
This was a huge mismatch it says a lot about Floyd when you think about how hard he tried to get that fight even going trough two elimination fights to force Gatti to fight him,all of this just to fight a guy that lost to Manfredy whom Floyd stopped in two rounds. Cherrypicking at its best.
I think landing something like 90 power punches in just shy of 2 rounds and knocking the guy down 3 times, once for good, when that opponent is naturally bigger and stronger than you and ranked p4p top 10 by Ring magazine going into the fight constitutes a great performance. Certainly better than toying with an old Gatti for 6 rounds.
No one said it was among his best but it's still a good win. PBF's best wins are G. Hernandez, Chico, JLC 2x, Oscar, Hatton and Zab and if he beats Mosley you can add his name to the list.
It seems that toilet cleaners have selective memories i was here to and i can say that you're blatantly lying to try and make your idol look better, few people if any picked Gatti to win the fight the polls that Gatti won that were related to that fight where threads asking posters who would they root for,any credible poster who was here during that time will say the same thing.
That fight was about getting his name out there against HBO's media darling and PBF took well advantage of it. He knew that tons of dumbass fans who watched Rocky one too many times, who couldn't break down a fight if their life depended would buy into the hype and think Gatti had a shot of wining and would show up and tune in to see the fight. I was at a fight party for that fight and you couldn't belive the amount of people who picked Gatti to beat the **** outta PBF and two even bet me. I vividly remember seeing the look on their faces and silence as PBF put a demolition job on Gatti. I had similar experiences at Hopkins-Tito and Winky-Tito fight parties as well.:yep
gatti(RIP) was one of the most exciting fighters in our era, but far from one of the best. Mayweather did what was expected of him.
Indeed the same Gatti that some years earlier when there was talks about him fighting Mosley was refused by HBO cause they thought that fight was a mismatch and rightfully so.
who are you ****ing kidding if gatti would have tried to slug the beatting would have been even worse. The only thing that save gatti ass that nite is that he didn't rush in, which is what floyd wanted.
I agree. PBF didn't count on Gatti trying to box him he didn't prepare for that ****. I'm sure it caught him off guard but he adjusted nicely.
yeah kills me when these people say thing like, "if gattie would have slugged he would have had better chance" BS!! Gatti boxing allowed him to stay in the fight as long as he did. Floyd is standing there right in front of gatti flat footed with his hands down, trying to bait Gatti to charge him.
