31s a pretty decent age for a fighter with Hattons style to retire. As soon as a short armed pressure fighter slows down just a notch his whole game at top level goes to pot. He can't close the distance, he gets more hit on the way in, he gets less punches off on the occasions he gets inside. Fighters with that style have no Plan B when Plan A isn't working , they don't have versatility or skills to adapt their style to their new physical limitations.
