I remember watching Mercer in Korea 88 and thinking he'd beat Bruno even then. Next time I saw him he was stopping Morrison, another guy that would have given Bruno fits.
Depends which Mercer shows up, he could be very inconsistent, I believe they were meant to fight in 94 in Hong Kong for some reason. That version of Mercer had drawn with Marion Wilson that year and the infamous Ferguson fight was the year before. If that Mercer shows up Bruno out works Mercer behind the jab and wins a decision. But if Mercer showed up in shape I think he'd have enough to overwhelm Bruno late in the fight and get a stoppage while behind on the cards.
Tommy Morrison and Herbie Hide were supposed to throw down on that card as well... A damn it was canceled last minute. Boxing lost out on some great matches that many still ponder to this day.

You realize Mercer had a fantastic stiff jab as well? Mercer's chin hold up, while I cannot say the same for Bruno in this matchup
There's a decent chance Bruno stays on his feet to win a decision, but as has already been pointed out I wouldn't bet against Mercer stopping him late.
I take Mercer by KO rd 7. While Bruno was physically impressive he lacked heart, which Ray was full of.
I actually like your prediction for Mercer ko 7 but I couldn't disagree with you more. Bruno had a lot of heart and courage he simply couldn't take a big punch. I do believe Mercer in his prime was better than Bruno though.
