Ray Mercer vs. Jack Dempsey

I'll go with Dempsey in a hard draining fight for both men. On points.

 

Ray Mercer = modern sized and modern skilled heavyweight. Dempsey = unskilled 190 pound cruiser weight by modern standards. With modern sized gloves Ray Mercer wins by 1st round KO. With those little 4 ounce horse hair gloves Dempsey used..Mercer by 1 round murder.

 

Ray Pearson in his Mythical Battles in the 1920s, matced Dempsey against Jack Johnson, Bob Fitzsimmons and Jeffries, and had him winning all of these contests.

It's not like he was just someone who stuanchly picked the newer fighter either, in the 11 fights, 6 of them had the earlierfighter winning, 1 had a draw, and the other one where the later fighter won was Jack Johnson beating Peter Jackson.

But obviously you can find a lot of different opinions.

 

Nooo. You seriously think that Mercer, though heavy-handed, but not a ko artist, could wallop Dempsey in 1?
