Ray Mercer vs Joe Frazier

I'll say it like this : Bonavena was better than Mercer.

 

Yes, I agree...I think he was too.

 

Talk about physique, even eddie futch said that frazier had the worst body of all champs. 235 mercer looked rock solid compared to peak frazier, gave lewis hell and ate them punches like ham and eggs in the morning... He wouldn't have to worry about frazier's power, and was a monster puncher who will have plenty of chances to land on a so-so chin of frazier

 

He looked fat as hell at 238 against Lewis.

 

like i said, mercer was porky at 235, overweight full of fat, mercer even at 220 looked packed of mass

 

Mercer was not much of a fighter in actuality. Joe would outwork him and win the decision in a one sided bout.

If you can't see that fat gut and those love handles, you need glasses.
Mercer fat as hell against Lewis, at 236 or 238 or whatever.
"thick torso and traps" has no bearing on it.
You can go find a thousand fat strongmen and fat nightclub bouncers that have all that. Doesn't change the fact they are fat.

My god how great these two were. First minute of round one they exhibit more skill than any hwt today in an entire bout.

 

Mercer looks strong and fit here, and the evidence supports it- going 10 hard rounds with lewis and not getting manhandled in the clinch.
Who gives a **** if he doesn't have a six pack?
W. Klitschko is ripped and has stamina problems, Bowe was never ripped and went 12 hard rounds with prime holyfield.

10 pounds does make the difference, even if it's fat, it's simple physics, heavier man is always stronger in the clinches...
205 frazier would look weak and would get manhandled vs 235 strong mercer

If he'd come in 20 pounds lighter he would have won without a doubt.

He just wasn't in Frazier's class. This thread is getting a bit silly.

 

Ray Mercer was big , strong but limited boxing skills. Joe would slip his jab and hammer him with his fabled left hook. Joe
has the superior skills inside and though Ray is always dangerous Joe would punish Ray into a unanimous decision.

 

Yea tyson fury is fat, how the hell did he beat the ripped wlad k?
I guess if he was 20 lbs lighter with six pack he would have ko wlad in few rounds

 

Who did Mercer ever stop that proves he can hit? Only Morrison but we all know the Morrison durability was questionable. I'd rank Mercers power as average.
