Ray Robinson vs Marvin Hagler

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by emallini, Oct 29, 2010.

  1. a prime sugar ray robinson would beat any welter/middle in the history. monzón,hagler, leonard, hopkins, jones jr,hearns.. all them included.
marvin would give him a fight of course.
robinson is the first of the bunch in any era

    that is a bold statment

i think robinson COULD beat any 147 or 160 fighter in history but would he do so consistently?

at 160, he was more vulnerable and a fighter like hagler i would certainly give a solid chance. along with both langford and greb, i might even favour those 3 over robinson

  3. i agree, marvin would have his chance of course, because he was a good pressure boxer with solid chin as jake lamotta but marvin was more skilled , my opinion is robinson would beat him 5/6 wars. robinson was as fast as leonard but robinson was more accurate, harder puncher, he had even better footwork, he got killer combinations. in my opinion hagler would be a great rival but robinson was too good.

Hagler aint stopping SRR in a thousand tries, Duran lasted 15 with a prime version, if anyone is getting stopped its Marvin, Robinson is the better fighter, faster & hits harder with both hands.

My call is a UD in SRRs favour if your talking best MW versions vs each other but a TKO or KO win for Robinson is not out of the question, the man sparked out Gene Fullmer with one left hook, KO`d Graziano with one straight right & just about killed Lamotta with ruthless pinpoint powerpunching to both body & head... he only failed to last the distance once in 202 fights vs a LHW, Hagler aint stopping **** vs Robinson, lets get real here.

Hagler is not really a big middleweight type that might be able to beat or at least give Robinson probblems on a consinstant basis.
If they both come into the fight at 100% physicaly and mentaly. Robinson would win. However Robinson could let things slip and if that happens Hagler has the abillity to beat him.

Hagler made Duran look good through his own passiveness. Robinson will put up a much better fight, but he's still not the natural MW here. His speed and firepower will trouble Hagler, but Hagler's tenacity always saw him get his opponent out. As I said, Robinson is an ATG great MW going against the best ever MW. Robinson bested lots of quality MW's, but not a prime Marvin Hagler.

"If anybody is getting stopped, it's Marvin..."

Please! If anybody needs to get real, it's you!

i could possibly see robinson on points,as to stopping him, pure fantasy, hagler wouldnt allow it, remember we are talking about 2 atgs here.

Its a bold statement to say that Langford beats Robbi... he belongs to a different era IMO and I think its next to useless looking at Greb in fantasy matchups. How is it possible to make a decent judgement when you have no film of the guy?

  11. robinson would win, no doubt on it

Jones wasn´t a great mw and neither was he a great lhw. Or at least he never proved it.

I wrote he was not a great mw and lhw. The divisions are to deep historically to consider him that. He didn´t do enough, borderline at lhw though. He was a great weightjumper.
