Williams KOs Ruddock. Williams eats a few smashes and the ring is in a frenzy, but fighters trying to land the knockout blow. Ruddock turns to total jelly when he's hit solidly. Williams was only knocked out twice in his prime-both to Lisston, and gave him a tough fight both times before going. Ruddock was chinny, Williams was tough-but human

It would be a very exciting fight. Some great punches exchanged. Any man can take it but I’m skeptical of Ruddock given that he never beat a good fighter who was in his prime.

my thoughts exactly, Weaver, Page, and Dokes were all old when he beat them. Tbh, they impressed me more in those fights than Ruddock, seeing as they gave Ruddock a tough go at times. Bonecrusher was probably the only prime win Ruddock ever had, and Smith was certainly no great technician.

Smith wasn’t even within seeing distance of prime when he fought Ruddock. He was 36 years old, off for a whole year, hadn’t won a fight in closer to three years and showed up at what was then a career high weight for him... That AND he took the fight on a few weeks notice. Despite his position, Smith nearly knocked Ruddock out in the second round.

I didn't mean prime in age, he was in his 30s when he started boxing, I meant that he was in his prime for his whole career: 1984-1990.

smiths prime was from about or approximately 1984-1987. No way was he prime in 1989 nor close and it wasn’t just age but also for the other reasons I listed.

You're right, his last good win was over Witherspoon (if you can call that good).

It's kind of difficult to figure it when a bum peaked. He beat Bruno, that's impressive, but Weaver was old, and Witherspoon fat. He beats Jesse Ferguson and David Bey during this period, but that's not amazing either, but still decent.

Dokes was ranked, I think top 5. You can't just downgrade the win because Ruddock put him in orbit. Bonecrusher was also still pretty good.

I dont know what Williams did that was so much better. Going 1-1 with Earnie Terrel?
