I can certainly empathise with those picking Tua. Ruddock usually neglected his Boxing skills & went for the KO, Tua has a great chin & a big punch of his own, so he gets the KO, right? I definitely see the logic. It’s just that assuming Ruddock & his corner have actually watched Tua, then even the dumbest fighter would change tactics for such a fight.

I’m pretty sure Ruddock could jab enough and take the occasional big punch needed to win.

I don't think so, Morrison had more heart and was more skillful than Ruddock.
Remember that Tillis and Pinklon both said Morrison hit harder than Tyson with his left hook and Morrison went 12 rounds with Foreman untouched.
Prime for prime I'll still pick Morrison over Ruddock but it would be tough fight, like 55/45 or 60/40, very close fight.
I think Tua not only had better chin than Morrison but was stronger man while Morrison was more skillful and harder puncher.
I think it's like comparing Foreman and Shavers, one stronger and better chin while the other had better punch and was more skillful.
Had Lewis brawled and got cocky like against McCall and Rahman, Tua would KO him cold, no question about it.

You mean like he did against Tyson, Lewis, Morrison and Bonecrusher ? Nah.

Prime Tua probably catches up to Ruddock at some point.

Tua after a certain point was a lethargic slug who got into close fights with the likes of Cisse Salif and was outboxed, twice, by Monte Barret. I'd favor Ruddock if this isn't a sharp, in-shape Tua.

I don’t know I’d say he played it dumb against them. Morrison was glass-jawed that would always be tempting. Lewis jumped on Ruddock that was a great performance by him, not a poor showing from Ruddock. Smith fight I haven’t seen so I’ll assume you’re right about that, but I don’t know what else he could have done against someone of Tyson’s calibre & image. Tua has neither of those things going for him.

Like I said, there’s dumb & then there’s brain dead. It’s hard to imagine a Human Being stupid enough to watch Tua’s fights, observe him, & intentionally play to the man’s strengths when his weaknesses are so glaring.

Smith dropped Ruddock hard with an overhand right and Ruddock came back to ko Smith for the first time since his pro debut. It's not exactly a good comparison to Tua.

Well I’m sure there’ll be a rebuttal waiting for that. I’ll have to watch the fight to comment myself but if true, there you go.

Sorry for the late response but I don't know. I find Tua incredibly overrated. Every time I see him picked to beat guys like Tyson, I instantly flash back to when he fought one person on that level and spent the entirety of the fight in his shell, looking befuddled cause he didn't know how to adjust.

He recieved a gift against Hashim Rahman as well.

Side note: Ruddock knocks Rahman out before the 6th round is complete!

I agree he is overrated I have seen Tua outboxed for large periods in fights where he seems to sleepwalk through fights.

But I do think the unique aspect to Tua is he can KO you at any point in the fight early or late which makes him dangerous not to mention he has a granite chin aswell. So combining those strong attributes with his 1 punch KO power even though Tua is limited skill wise still makes him a very dangerous opponent.

He looked a lot less lethal against the only two guys he fought who could jab as hard as Ruddock--Rahman and Lewis. And I back Ruddock's durability over Rahman's.
