Who came the closest to KO'ing him?

And if you could pick 3 MW's of all time that have got the best chance of finishing him, who would it be?

I don't think anyone came close to stopping him. Hearns punch hurt him the most I have seen, but he recovered quickly and Tommy broke his hand on that punch. I do think Hearns could have stopped him in a rematch.

If Tommy couldn't so it i don't see anybody doing it, he broke his hand on his face c'mon Thomas Hearns with all that power and just staggered Hagler for a second...

You guys act like Hearns was the hardest hitting middleweight. To answer the question I cant think of anyone stopping him.

    Minter shook him.

Reading a report, Monroe hurt him in their first fight, and was probably as close as anyone to stopping him in arguably Hagler's only 'definite' defeat.

And although many disagree, I think the referee was in his rights to count the Roldan knockdown. Hagler was not hurt, and he was off balance from slipping, but it was the punch that put him down, as without it, he would of regained his balance and stayed on his feet.

I am pretty sure that the guy on the left of my avatar is named Monroe....but be that as it may, Monroe certainly surprised Hagler, Monroe was not a major power puncher as he was a silky smooth boxer....he cut Hagler pretty good, and maybe momentarily stunned him...I don't recall Hagler being in danger of being stopped....there is no known film for me to review (Oh, I hope I am wrong!), and I was admittadly young when the fight occured.

Mike Tyson with a baseball bat wouldn't K.O Hagler. Seem to remember reading somewhere years ago that some kind of scan he had revealed a thicker than normal skull.

Yes he did, a big left hook caught and stunned Hagler just before the stoppage.

My bad, I naturally assumed you meant the first fight based upon your above statement....Just out of curiosity which fight was it 2 or 3, although I might find time for both this week...It pains me every time I think of Monroe losing (Love was the most devestating personally), so I might avoid it as well...LOL!

there has never been a middleweight capable of stopping hagler.minter wobbled him and hearns caught his attention but thats it.
against roldan he was fouled with a punch to the back of his head.

he was such a compact middleweight who tucked his chin down that it would be hard for anyone at 160 to hurt him although had he moved up to 175 I think he would have been hurt.

No one came anywhere near to KO'ing Hagler; Hearns is the only one who it can be said came close to 'stopping him' due to Steele's time-out in the 3rd rd.
