Wilder couldn't KO Fury in a million years. Age has nothing to do with it. Those fast twitch muscles responsible for that killer right hand, that would have been the same at 20 as it is now at nearly 36
A few things. A bit rusty from the long layoff - same layoff for Wilder, of course, but unlike Fury he's not really a guy who relies on any timing or feel in his boxing. I also don't think he was as focussed and prepared for this one as he has for their first two fights, as we all know he had his eyes on Joshua and this was an unwelcome spanner in the works. But also let's not forget - it's not as if Fury is the most consistent performer or has a water-tight defence. He gets careless and tagged, has done right throughout his career. Luckily he has good powers of recovery and natural fighting instincts which mean he tends to find a way through these sticky situations.
It seems Fury's overall fitness wasn't there tonight. He didn't move or feint as much as usual. He was kind of flat footed and he seemed exhausted during the fight. Some of that might be due to the investment Wilder made in body shots, but I think it was mostly to Fury being a bit under-prepared. He dug deep and gutted out a win. (Both men dug deep tonight. Wilder lost, but he lost like a warrior!)
He needs to fight Whyte and Joshua/Usyk then go on a run as champ at Wembley - not Vegas. Still several prime years in him.
Yeah you can..I mean if you look at it from the perspective that he got up from being KD and then battered and KOd Wilder into a ref stoppage then yeah it was a good performance.. But when looking at Fury actually in the ring and what he was doing it was sloppy, he was lethargic, neglected or didn't have the energy for defence.. So in that sense yeah it was a poor performance but it was enough to wipe the floor with Wilder
Dunno about that Fury looked lethargic and slow on his feet throughout.. He didn't show much movement in terms of footwork and upper body movement compared to the second and its not implausible that it was due to covid
Whyte will be next by the look of it and Fury should deal with him and then I expect Usyk to beat AJ so it would be Usyk Vs Fury for all the marbles.
He fought fine. Problem was Wilder fought his best fight of the triology. Fury put him down in the 3rd then got sloppy and nailed with a massive Wilder right hand. Rd4 took alot out of Fury but he seemed to recover mostly by the 7th and had Wilder punching air, a lot of air the remainder of the fight. He took his time and eventually ended it.
No doubt he looked sloppy. Skill-wise he may have regressed (or perhaps just wasn't in the best shape/practice), but you can't call it a poor performance when he did the other half of being a fighter (hitting hard and dealing with the punishment he took) better than he ever has. After this fight, Fury's power actually looks fairly intimidating, beyond how he looked in the second fight. It also confirmed how difficult it is to keep him down. If Wilder can't do it after three attempts, who can?
20 months out and numerous personal issues… now the saga is put to bed fury will regroup and get excited about the sport again.. Furys a fkin legend, great character for the sport.. bring on Whyte
