Boxing is the only sport that can make my hands shake with anticipation. And it is the only sport that I've ever watched and been speechless at humanity's grace and power all in the same instant. Football, hockey, soccer and basketball are all just cheap imitations.
Also having to make up excuses once and a while when a can't miss fight comes a long on a Saturday night where you're buds would rather be out doing something else..."Sorry boyz, I got that test to study for."....(ya ****in' right:yep)...
This is why boxing is so great. At any moment even the first 10 seconds all it takes is one shot and its over.
It's sad that the best fight of this era never happened, but that's what you get when there is no one overruling governing body telling the athletes to get it on. The Fab Four would not have been what they were without fighting each other. But yeah, boxing when it's great, is the best. There's nothing quite like it.
by the same same token though you watch any show or highlight reel on the likes of ali he is remembered for the fights with liston foreman & frazier,, they always skim over the later bouts with the likes of berbick & holmes ( & as theyt should) whats that got to do with anything? can never understand why people cant enjoy boxing and MMA, 2 separate sports that have next to nothing in common,, & i dont want to start a boxing vs mma argument but the UFC is far from dead, wait for jones vs sonnen or the inevitable GSP vs anderson silva fight before you speak too soon.
Without getting into a Pac v Floyd debate, this is another reason that grips my ****. The potentially greatest fight for decades and it still hasn't happened, not that it matters now. Both parties should be ashamed of themselves. If either fighter wanted it that much, it would have already happened.
I can relate to all those bum belts, thats a travesty, to borrow a phrase, there can be only one. I also hate that catchweight ****. Let me ask a question; Is a champion's manditory always the #1 contender, and does he always have to put his belt on the line whenever he fights?:bbb:bbb
Yeah. Jerry Rice was gonna be on the bottom of the depth chart of receivers for the Broncos, so he retired instead. Michael Jordan was a solid player for the Wizards by normal standards, but he wasn't even close to what he had been in his 2nd stint with the Bulls, which was inferior to his 1st stint (88-93 was probably his prime). Kareem's last year was kinda tough to watch. Most NFL running backs retire when they're a shell of what they once were. Nothing exclusive to boxing, except that watching guys in other sports doesn't consist of a one-on-one beating inside a ring.
