Another pretty good 'un (and bigging up an adopted local lad) was Stracey vs Hedgemon Lewis. Johnny is non-stop throughout and Lewis just can't keep him off, he's relentless. Afterwards Lewis's trainer* said Stracey was the "nearest thing I've seen to Henry Armstrong". * That trainer being some unknown who called himself Eddie Futch by the way. High cotton indeed.
Yes, some early Nigel was good stuff. David Noel was a great knockout, Michael Chilambe also- although the Chilambe KO was the victim of the disease that is known as camerus interruptus- the moment of the KO unfortunately taking place in the millisecond that the cameras switched the action.
They had all Nigel's early fights on World of Sport on saturday afternoons, all ending in about a minute. He had a good amateur career didn't he ? Certainly more televised than any of his peers who were also rising up at the time.
there was a fight in early 2007 whcih was a 2 round affair which was incredible. Luyolo Katiya vs Mzukiseni Lengesi 2 super middlewieghts with only 8 fight between them. lengesi storsm foreward with wild haymakers and looping hooks and uppercuts while katiya who uses his jab and ritgh hand to keep him at bay. lengesi come in with a big left hook and katiya sickens him with a 1-1-2 on the chin. lengesi gets felled to the floor. he gets up with a horrificly broken nose with blood absolutely everywhere, and stand in the center of the ring. katiya comes in to clean up shop with a rigth ha......bang a overhand right onto katiya chin makes him slam face first into the floor. now he is all over h eplace legs and arms acting in non conversion. it ends the round with lengsei beatign him into the ropes. next round and katiya is still uneasy on his feet is very slow to compensate. lengesi is landing with the overhand right on 5 occasions katiya is all over the place. he takes a step back just as lengesi starts to throw his signature punch th eoverhand right. katiya takes a mini step back and lands the best single left jab i have ever seen which sparks him out cold. slumps to the floor gum shield blood splashing all over the place as soon as that left hand landed.
yeah good call on carl thompson always had a good go. look for the ezra sellers vs carl thompson or uriah grant vs carl thompson great fighter this is against a guy called rothmann who was rated as high as number 2 in the cruiserwieght rankings [yt]VUaVTXyjQbs[/yt]
Aaron Davis? As a matter of fact, I believe I did see this fight, but long ago. Can't remember too many of the details. Anyway, my contribution is Booker T Word vs Anthony Hembrick - Lightheavyweights. Hembrick was a young prospect out of the Army, who had fought in the Sol olympics in 1988. He did this incredible dance display when his name was announced, and all his Army buds were there to cheer him on. As soon as the bell rang, Word kicked his f-ckin' ass. Floored him 3 times enroute to a first round stoppage.. Never seen a fighter lose so quickly after such an elaborate enterance. Half of me laughed, the other half felt sorry for him. Incidently, that fight was on the same card as Pinklon Thomas vs Mike Hunter. Sad display for Pink.
Be sure to watch these in high quality. According to Ray Arcel, this was the greatest defensive boxer of all time, and this is perhaps his greatest performance. (What a blessing that we can all see this for ourselves now!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EDKsWOKIlo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFffPUV0wpI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6PD8mEPsQU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsRX6r19ws0
