In anticipating the Rua-Griffin II fight happening next month as well as a possible Aoki-Melendez II fight later this year, I get to see two of my favourite fights get the opportunity to avenge losses that have been blackspots on their careers.

While I will not get into why I think they can win the rematch I do recall a few other cases where fighters were able to avenge embarrassing losses, here are some examples:

GSP - Serra II - Really proved who the person with the better class was. Would be great to see GSP fight with something to prove again.

Kharitonov - Overeem II - Getting KO'd by Reem was one of the lows in Kharitonov's career, as Reem had only recently moved up to HW I believe. Kharitonov was able to outlast Reem in a sluggfest and prove why he is a tough matchup for any MMA fighter.

Overeem - Werdum II - Not really sure what it proved actually, but Reem didn't get subbed so....I guess he learned to stick to his strengths, but his striking was not really that great in that fight either.

Sylvia - Arlovski II - Sylvia showed a lot of will in this fight, and AA showed his chin.

Aoki - Hansen III - Unbelievably almost went the distance, I don't think Aoki get enough cred for the amazing last minute sub.

Did Penn not lose to Edgar again? Or do you mean that everyone expected Penn to win the rematch?

Oh I didn't read what you wrote about "avenging losses". I just thought you meant rematches that cleared up any confusion. As in the first fight was controversial, but the 2nd fight set the record straight and was definitive.

    My bad :good

:thumbsup You are 100% correct, as is custom when unseating longtime champs, you need to do it twice to have it legitimized.

Fedor - Nog III also fits this category

You brought it up in your opening post. That's about as on topic as it gets.

    Also, Rua/Machida II
    Couture/Belfort III
