Dazzler v Degale in the pro ranks would have been brillant. Sadly never to happen....

To this day I have never seen a prospect that I was more sure would be not just a world champion but a superstar, then the day I first saw Darren Sutherland. The boxing world and fans miss that wonderful fighter and person.

Just like its said below my user name on this site for the past 2 years and always will

    R.I.P Darren Sutherland

    Some nice tributes lads.

I hope more coaches/promoters are aware now of this within the sport and look out for any signs of depression. Easier said then done i know..

    sad story with sutherland

he had a very tough fight with rasalev who he stopped (and who hasnt fought since) and that probably put doubts in his head about boxing. plus its not easy being all alone in another country without any friends.

i think we all relate to sutherland because we have all felt really down at some point in our lives.

he was a very nice guy. he showed maturity to sit his leaving cert at age 20 when he came back from the uk. there was never any ego with sutherland and he sat alongside 16 and 17 year olds, then got a place in college. he was a decent guy and nobody has a bad word to say about him.

he was very talented and who knows what he could have achieved

the good thing is, he will never be forgotten

He achieved so much yet had so much more to offer.

I've never been as excited by an amateur turning pro as in 98 with Darren. To be honest it was early 08 when I first heard of Darren but his approach & attitude both inside & outside the ring just captured fans. He was fantastic in the Olympic quarter finals & I was so gutted DeGale beat him as I thought the gold was his at that stage.

A star in the making it's just heartbreaking to look back an think on what was lost 2 years ago.

    RIP The Dazzler

Believe he had Bi Polar and a lot of the problem he had around that time was the cut to the eye and his display as he was a perfectionist and was always upset but the problem to the eye he had from the amateurs.

The night it happened i can remember coming home from 5-a-sides and getting a call of my dad at around 10pm and being told 'Darren Sutherlands died...' i went cold lads..horrible feeling. The guy i was walking home with worked with Darren funnily enough and used to drive him from place to place on week of fights.
