It’s cos a trend has been set. If they start DQ for clinching, nobody will clinch!

The referee who does that will not officiate another match ever again.
Octopuses like Akinwande aside most clever boxers hold to spoil.

When I punch somebody in the nuts my intention is to inflict physical damage on him while when I clinch somebody who tries to punch me I try to protect myself from his punches. It’s not that complicated. Even if my intention is to stop him from punching by giving him a low blow, you still try to damage him doesn’t matter what intention I have

I've seen refs make a distinction between clinching to the opponents body ie smothering him and not letting him create space, vs holding his arms. I'm ok with that.

Obviously Floyd who is a smart fighter and bigger than Pac used this to his advantage. I'm ok with that too but what's laughable is people who think Floyd would beat Pac if they were the same size or who think size had nothing to do with it.

Excellent thread. If ONLY this important rule was properly enforced against its most egregious violator, the mediocre HW known as John Ruiz. Without the unfortunate disregard for enforcing the rules perpetrated by refs in the 1990s and early 2000s, this cheater would be known only for getting starched by David Tua in 19 seconds. Shows what connections to a powerful promoter can do for ya!
