It was a robbery in my opinion from what i recall and Lockett was very passive and lucky to scrape the decision. Iv watched Locketts career since he turned pro and have always had a keen eye on his pleasing but limited style. One thing is certain though Gary has a decent beard so this wont be quick despite what anyone on this board thinks.
Thats about it really. Kelly has had three hard fights in a row; time for an easy one. Don't blame his handlers at all.
He certainly is. But considering Pavliks crudeness a war shouldnt be out of the question. Either way Lockett is hardly the club fighter that his been labelled as by some on this forum.
It's the old "I don't rate you if I've never heard of you" thought process and it's very much a part of this forum. I was always aware of Lockett on the radar but I didn't pay as much attention to him as I did the leading lights of UK boxing (Calzaghe, Hatton, Haye, even Danny Williams). Good little fighter. We'll see what happens.
Thanks for the video, Vincent.:good Lockett has decent form, pretty impressive handspeed & a nice 1-2. But he wings alot of punches too & God forbid you run into one of them wild left hooks. Looks like he can be found easily with the right hand, & he backs up once & awhile. After seeing that, KP has to be cautious, but I can see him rocking Lockett with the right & thats all it takes with Kelly. Rock 'em & then finish 'em. Lets hope its a standard Kelly Pavlik fight on June 7th.
Crudeness? Which crudeness are you talking about? The crudeness that puts his connect rate at over 40% in many rounds? Or perhaps you're talking about the crudeness he uses when throwing text book perfect combinations? Oh wait! I know! You must be talking about the crudeness of his finishing skills. That would certainly explain why his KO ratio is only 90%. Maybe your referring to the crudeness of the boxing fundamentals he used to score a UD over the guy who beat BHop twice! If not that, then almost certainly you must be talking about the crude foot work he uses to turn the ring into a phone booth, and blast his opponents into oblivion. 33-0 with 29 KO's, and the universally recognized middleweight champion of the world; yep, he's one crude sum-*****!
Ok, he's the middleweight Pernell Whitaker. The guy is crude as ****. Slow, no angles, plods forward, bad defence. That is crude I do dig at the guy a fair bit, so to balance it out he punches nice and straight (jab and straight right particularly impressive), has very good accumulative power, good work-rate and also good heart and recovery skills :yep
Have you ever noticed that every fighter says Pavlik is slow before they fight him, and afterwards sing a completely different tune? Crude is not the right word to describe his style. And to say he "plods" forward is just bull****. Go tell JT that Pavlik just "plods" forward. He moves forward behind a very good jab, timing, and decent footwork. He does throw defence out the ****ing window at times, but that is a choice he makes, not a matter of inability. He's generally willing to take some shots in order to keep moving forward. In fact there are times when he seems to think his forehead is a defensive weapon!!! At other times I've seen him stand right in front of a guy and catch 90% of what the guy throws on his gloves and forearms. We know the term boxer-puncher; how about boxer-SLUGGER for Pavlik. His first loss will not come at the hands of a wildman like Calzaghe, or a heavy hitter like Miranda. His nemesis will prove to be a clever counter -puncher with enough power to buy Kelly's respect: Think Danny Lopez/Salvador Sanchez.
For a guy who is 29 years old your boxing knowledge is way behind the curve. I guess you're just a late bloomer huh?
Is that the best you can do? Are you a fan of boxing or a fanboy? Seriously dude get the **** out of here.
is it me or did gary lockett in that old video have flabby tits? when he jumps up before the start of the fight, he has tits
