No problem with the top 3. BHops should be a couple of noches down Winky hasn't done anything lately to be top 10 DLH is not a p4pder Calderon is way to low. He should be top 5 or 6 Antonio Margarito??? WTF?
I dunno if I agree with this....For one I don't think Pavlik is overrated, although I guess it depends on how you feel about the guy. If you think he's an elite fighter (right now) then yeah he's overrated. If you think he's an exciting hard hitting GOOD (maybe even great) fighter like I do then I say he's fine where he is. You have to put him in the top 10 similarr to why if a DIV 1 school and a DIV 2 have the same record, You have to give the nod to division 1 because of strength of schedule. He's beating Taylor and Miranda recently...those guys are at least GOOD fighters (maybe more depending on who you ask) and more importantly...they're names. I know it's a shitty way to look at things but that's the way it is. I think Kessler and Pavs would make for an outstanding clash....but Pavlik is ahead on strength of overall schedule. I'm sure you'll disagree but I figured I'd explain why I have Pavs in my top 10.
Cotto is outside the U.S.? I don't believe half of the world's best fighters are Americans, and certainly not in the spots that some of them hold. You can argue Pavlik and Mosley belonging where they do, obviously, but Wright and Spinks??? It's disappointing, because for a guy who claims to watch every important fight via DVD, he seems to remember only those waged by Americans. In addition to Mijares, Klitschko and Haye, you could make strong top-20 arguments for Abraham and Kessler. Why is it OK for Jermain Taylor to go 0-2-1 in his most recent three big fights, including a stoppage, while it isn't OK for Kessler to drop a competitive decision against the No. 2 fighter in the world? It's only OK because he's biased. I defy anyone to make an argument for Spinks in the top 20. Hell, Zab Judah deserves a higher spot than Cory.
You think half of the best fighters in the world are American? I sure don't, and certainly not where he has them ranked on this list. Worse, he excludes one guy -- Dawson -- who at least should be in the top 20. I can understand holding off on the top 10, but not the top 20. Spinks? ODLH?
Yeah I can't defend Cory Spinks anywhere near the top 20 P4P wise. He does chats right? Someone should drop in and ask him how that's even possible.
I appreciate the argument and can understand why Pavlik is ranked in the top 10, but to me you don't have to base anything on name. I think Kelly's wins have been oversold a bit, although he is the real champion and hasn't lost, so you can't dispute him but so much. My greater issues are with some of the other guys, along with the overall misoverestimation (ha) of the guys who have fought at 160 of late.
I too think his wins are oversold...I think that's sort of why Arum is trying to cash in on Kelly as quickly as possible. Just that as of right now, I can't think of anyone outside of top 10 who can say they're above him right now. Things will change of course...but that's just how I feel right now.
Pac should be #1 or 2.....I say #2 but a strong case for #1. Joe doesn't deserve to be above PAC or Cotto at this point.
WTF? Margarito? DLH and Mosley way too high. I didn't realize that you could be a ***** and get on this list. Look at Spinks. Dawson, Haye, and Kessler is missing from this list.
Cool. You made an argument supported by fact and logic, and those are too far and between on this forum. Although I think Kelly is high, I'd still have him around 11 or 12 probably. In retrospect, perhaps "way, way too high" was a bit of hyperbole on my part. My hope is that Calzaghe gets a clean UD over Hopkins, and thus Kessler gets a little extra burn in the rankings as a result. I still think he's a top 10 PfP based on ability, if not accomplishment.
