Ricky Burns Is Now Ranked #2 @ 130 By The Ring

This shows just how good Burns' performance last week was. Burns wasn't even in the top 10 before the fight, and now he sits proudly at the very top of the division just below Fana. Personally, given the standard of the win, I feel he deserved the top spot, but perhaps The Ring panel is waiting to see if Burns keeps up a consistent run of form following the Martinez win.

In addition to grabbing a title at the weight, his incredible performance against Martinez has rightfully put him amongst the elite in the division. Congratulations to Billy, the backroom staff, and, most importantly of all, to Ricky Burns. One hell of an achievement.

Not taking anything away from Burns...but how is he above Uchiyama!?!?

 

Great performance Los but to get #1 on that one fight would have been a mistake by The Ring IMHO. It could have been a fluke, an off night for Martinez etc, I'm not saying that was the case, just that it would need taking taking into account before ranking a fighter who was outside the top 10 as the number 1 on the back of one fight.

i for one was convinced he didnt stand a chance and he proved alot of people wrong
hopefully now he pushes on and looks for the big fights in the not too distant future

 

yeh good to see him getting the credit. Dan Rafael & Steve Kim who are two of the most well known US boxing writers have both said its there fight of the year so far.

 

Not taking anything away from Burns or Uchiyama, but the division is a bit balls (probably the worst in boxing).

Its a division full of average guys that's just waiting for one of the high profile featherweights to move up and clean shop.

 

I know the division is weak right now, but there are a couple of decent fighters coming through at the weight - I think the division will look pretty healthy in 12-18 months time. But as it stands, Uchiyama is at least number 2 :bart

Just think that in the near future it may turn into a temporary feeding ground for FW's passing through on their way to LW.

Someone like Chris John should maybe move in there and set up shop (he fought Juarez up at SFW, didn't he?).

I'd like to see Burns looking to clean out the division in the next year or so, rather than getting into a domestic merry go round (as some people seem to want :huh) - as mentioned above the division isn't great, and bar for being stuck on his arse early and hurt in the mid rounds once or twice he handled Martinez pretty easily.

Why wait fighting the weakest and let a feather come up and clean house, taking all the credit?

It's definately up there, and deservedly so.

Although I agree to an extent, I don't think it's fair to label all fighters in a given division **** just because it's a pretty uncompetitive division. Let's not take anything whatsoever away from Burns; you can only beat who is infront of you. HW has been God-awful for years.

That said, I do fully expect others will be moving up from Feather soon enough when all of the megabouts (and maybe some upsets) are all said and done. Once Gamboa has ripped through all of the Feathers, he'll dominate Super Feather (and possibly beat Juanma for a second time) before moving up yet again:yep:good.
