I wouldn't say Buckland is deserving of a "world title" shot, but he's definitely a lot more capable than Cook is currently.

Also worth noting that Buckland is being avoided like the plague currently, and for good reason.:yep

Youssef Al Hamidi 8-33-2 W PTS6 - lost to pretty much every decent fighter he's faced

Buckland is the only acceptable domestic opponent for Burns..... ideally he'd be taking on some top 10 Ring ranked fighters.

As has been said millions of times already boxing is a business. A promoter doesnt usually set up fights that fans of the sport are wanting to see coz they already have us. They look to set up fights that will sell to the casual fan and it needs an angle to promote it....in this case its the auld Scotland v England selling point and that will sell and get fans watching. Lets not forget Ricky seems to be one of the few that are not on PPV these days so he keeps busier in order to make decent cash compared to the guys who will get much more from the ppv figures. after Cook it will be 3 defences in 9 or 10 months and if a match against one of the divisions fellow belt holders is set up for the autumn that would be a little over a year from one big match up til the next and thats no worse than most other champions.

Lets not forget almost all our world champions have defended against poor opposition from time to time (Joe Calzaghe is regarded as one of our best of all time and he had easy defence after easy defence for years)

Ricky will step up to the plate and he will go for the unification bouts soon enough. No point in giving Billy grief as he is a trainer and not a matchmaker and if you refuse opponents offered then they might find themselves getting inactive and rusty. I've yet to see a champ take on big fight after big fight. The busier the fighter the more he keeps sharp and if you fight 4 or 5 times a year you can afford it. imo of course lol

 

Ko'ing the British champ not enough for you and cook has done what exactly? Buckland is not my first choice but the most relevant at domestic scene.

Dunky I have no probs with burns, just want him to fight someone decent. Ortiz beats Berto and instead of fighting a nobody he chases big fights like khan or pbf. Froch wins title and fights everybody in the division for **** sake. This is burns 3rd stinker now! No hate just plain frustration, the fact your classing my posts as hating is a character flaw on your side as you seem unable to accept my opinion for what it is - pointing out a fighter who is holding a title to ransom!

Is asking for a champ to defend his title against deserving opposition to much to ask now? What has cook done to deserve this? Sniffing coke and fighting a no mark now gets you a shot at the title haha. Had cook not been on war-rens book he would not get a shot. Fact!

Finally burns is a good fighter who is waiting his talent and youth fighting these calibre fighters. Such a shame, it really is...

 

what has gary buckland ever won apart from prizefighter,nicky cook has been British, Commonwealth, European featherweight and WBO super featherweight champion. now could u say the same about buckland???

 

Compared to Buckland who won Prizefighter and has lost to the only decent fighter he has faced??

I am not for one seconed saying Cook deserves the fight, just think its ridiclious to say Gary Buckland deserves it more. Niether man warrants a world title fight.

Theres no domestic fighter that deserves a world title fight currently in the division. Cook, Buckland, Appleby, Walsh, Sykes all need to win the European to at least warrant the shot.

Your both Scottish and clearly bias. It is unbelievable how you can think this is a good match up. Im rooting for Burns to win, which he will do quite easily, But this fight is a joke and if Burns doesn't start fighting the best I and alot more people will no longer support him.:good

 

But Ricky Burns beating commonwealth fighters that are nowhere near as good as Buckland or Sykes and he got a shot at Martinez. Evensen did nothing to deserve a shot. Same with laryea he beat Appleby who moved up in weight after being stopped at british level and beat 2 journeyman. Beating Youssef Al Hamidi shouldn't get Cook a world title shot. Try all you want Billy but you cannot justify this fight mate.:deal

 

Or the last one if truth be told. But if you don't like it don't buy a ticket, simple as. It could be worse he could be on PPV!

 

btw i would be supporting Burns in this fight.

 

Name me one fighter domestically who deserves it more, my logic is that buckland fought for European honours at a higher weight and ko Sykes. He still wouldn't be ideal but it'd be way better than cook. Cook should be fighting top10 as I've already stated!

Im not going to buy a ticket, I will be up in Scotland at the time but no chance will i pay to watch this fight, ****** has been putting on crap undercards in Burns last two defences. I will watch the fight though as I like Burns(no homo).
