Ricky Hatton: The WBU Years

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by colinthfc, Feb 23, 2009.

  1. Witter was nothing but a cherry picked fight for Zab, Just like Jennings recently, he hadn't done anything to deserve to title shot. It then took him another 5 years to capture a vacant title

I don't hold it against Witter, I genuinely don't really care either way about Witters career but, when you hold him up as someone who Hatton should have tried to emulate in a career thats seen him be the lineal champ at his weight, successfully defend his title for 4 years, beat numourous belt holders at 140 and is now about to face his 4th top 10 P4P opponent (and 2nd P4P number 1), I think someone should at least try to point out to you the reality of how the two boxers careers compare to each other.

Not bad considering FW threw him to the wolves the same way he unceremoniously dropped Bobby Vanzie.

There not comparable in the slightest. The reason why Hatton gets the flack is because he was the one given the silver spoon who has repeatedly lied and fed fans a steady stream of PR bull****.

  5. Nothing to do with him having the greater talent then.

Hatton started off the same way as Witter, neither had a Olympic medal or any great amatuer pedigree. Its not Hattons fault he's popular and Witter isn't. Life just isn't fair sometimes.

    not true.

hatton was an aba champion and had a serious reputation.

plus he mixed in international class and did well.

in boxing circles hatton had a rep. :yep

no one gave a carrott about witter.

    still don't. ;)

The Witter-Hatton episode comes up quite a lot on here.

So clearly people do care. Fact.

I have to admit I didn't know Hatton was an ABA champ. I knew he had a decent amatuer career and represented England but I though that was about it.

So much greater talent that despite being called out for a decade and agreeing a fight with Witter and Witter winning a world title as Hatton used that as another stipulation he still wouldnt fight him? Sounds like Ricky doesnt have as much faith in his "talent" as you do

Not really. I don't care about that fight and I still post in the thread, more than a few of the other <ahem!> "contributors" are just the usual anti-Hatton brigade, the same clowns that got behind the "Hattons ducking Bradley" BS was soon as Bradley managed to beat Edner Cherry....says it all really.

Its called promotion. Im pretty sure your WELL aware of that glaring omition and bonafide fact. Remember Bobby Vanzie and what FW did to him? Or is this another case of GazOC selective memory....

A professional boxers needs to promote himself??? Shocking!!! Thats a new one on me, maybe you should tell Junior Witter?

WTF do I care about Frank Warren?

  15. And while Witter was defending his "title" in Doncaster, Hatton was chasing a fight with Mayweather.. topping bills in Las Vegas
