Ricky Hatton is Prizefighter? Mate his expenses over the weekend would have been more than 32K :deal Look, in hindsight Hatton done the wrong thing, in essence he essentially done the right thing: Ricky Hatton in 8 rounders? I dont think so! What was the alternative; fight behind close doors, fight domestic level guys, British level and below. Or fight in a comeback fight against a live opponent and fill out the MEN and a sound financial package! Hatton was always going to do it this way, he done himself a dis-justice as far as the performance went, it was almost painful to watch them left hooks go whistling through thin air one after the other :| but it had to be this way, building up slowly is just not Hattons style and the public wouldn't of bought it. What happened was for the better for Hatton and fans, as painful as it was it had to be that way.
Some posters on here need to be IP banned for the good of this forum. They offer absolutely nothing apart from agendas and opinions to discredit others. Instead of trying to discredit others, why cant you debate like adults with the points made instead of just putting "This." or "Stopped reading at...." Why does this forum continue to allow these users to post? They offer absolutely **** all. No input, no knowledge, nothing. I cant even give them character, because they dont offer that either.
Well said Unfortunately boxing as with any other subject has its snobs who disregard other people's opinions with a smug 'I know everything attitude'
I think it was obvious from the shape Hatton was in that he wasn't just there for the pay day.He looked sloppy though, his timing was miles off and to add to his woes Senchenko wasn't exactly a walk in the park he's a massive Welterweight with a good solid jab and enough about him to punish Ricky everytime he tried to put together an attack.I have no doubt that a prime Hatton would have smothered Senchenko and probably knocked him out in the mid to late rounds. 3 and a half years out of the ring, all the shite he put in his body and up his nose in between fights had finally caught up on him. I still think his career would have been different if he'd taken better care of himself. Shame really
Whatever happened, that night at the MEN is one I will never forget. The Pre-fight and ring walk was special.
The way he did it was painful for him, the fans and the media i think. But it was the right way. He found out what he wanted to know in the way he needed to do it for himself. The change in his lifestyle from the whole experience leading upto a comeback till now is testament to that
Three round fights and one night tournaments are for amateurs and exhibition bouts, Hatton was making a comeback with 47 pro fights on his resume, he clearly was no amateur.
Exactly this, but it was naive of Hatton to think it's as simple as that. A tuneup would definitely have helped not least because of the 2 camps he'd have done.
I dont think he was being naive, i think he was doing it the way he had to. The way he felt he had to for himself and in his words 'the fans' A tuneup etc in his eyes could caused a the rise of a false dawn. He wanted to know if he had it left and not protecting himself from the truth. He found that out, in one fight and now leads a healthier lifestyle for the process.
This. He got his answers in one night. Remember, if he looked good the Malignaggi fight was nailed on in Vegas. He couldn't have fought for example.. Ashley Theophane, (if you want a average to top British fighter as a comeback) beat him and got it in his head he's one of the best again, then got a beat down abroad & start feeling sorry for himself that he let everyone down again --> back to the beggining.
No he shouldn't of gone into PF. I think it was commendable that he chose a tough fight albeit against a very average ex world champion in Senchenko. The question marks against him going into the fight lead to much intrigue and Hatton was impressive early before falling apart in latter rounds. Which many had questioned and that's where Hatton beat himself IMO. He would of been better fighting a 8 rounder with a European level opponent but i think the pressure of no Sky deal and coming back to head his promotions as the marquee name and having it on primetime at a massive arena led to him choosing a tougher fight over a long distance then he should of.
