    Boxing: Lewis To Meet Bowe

    Saturday 18th June, 1994 00:02

LENNOX LEWIS is to defend his World Boxing Council heavyweight title against Riddick Bowe in Las Vegas between November and next May. Lewis will earn pounds 12m and Bowe nearly pounds 9m, according to the champion's financial backer, Pannos Eliades.

This depends upon Lewis's successful mandatory defence against Oliver McCall at Wembley in September and Bowe winning a comeback fight after losing his World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation titles to Evander Holyfield last November

I had a old VHS video of Lennox Lewis , and on it, one of his promoters said they had a contract to fight Bowe, but it fell through because he was stopped by McCall.

If Bowe had have fought Lennox after beating Holyfield,as was agreed to prove who the real champ was. That was the ONLY time Bowe would have had a prayer of ever beating Lennox. A very small chance
Instead Newman & Papa Smurf Eddie Futch realized Bowe had little chance & therefore renaged on the deal. Eddie knew Bowe had the equipment but lacked the champions heart & dedication need to beat Lennox

If the fight happened then Lennox would beat Bowe again by way of K.O.

They negotiated to fight several times, and it just never came together. It was 4 different times that negotiations happened (92, 93, 94, 96).

All he showed against Golota was his limited ability to fight on the outside.

Lewis was actually offered the same guaranteed purse Bowe got when he challenged Holyfield.

I think he had the ability but just liked to brawl. In one of the two fights he starts jabbing Golota effectively even after he had taken a beating the whole fight. That is one of the reasons Golota low blowed him.
