Agreed I lost count of how many times Rios was caught flush, from all angles & ranges. At times, Alvarado was landing combinations whilst Rios just stood still & shook it off. His guard clearly isnt fantastic. I'm a fan of Rios & really enjoyed his fights. Not many guys work well on the inside these days & its refreshing to see. I'm not bothered at all by the result (anymore ) but the performance is relative to this thread. Up against a brave & skilled operator Rios looked clumsy & crude.
I just like to **** with the "Abril" fans. ("Is there anybody out there...") But yeah Abril definitely boxed Brandon's balls off... But Rios was a dead man @ 135lbs, Yeah they screwed Abril of a pts win ehhh it happens. Sometimes you have to crack a few eggs to make an omelette.
This is what a fighter who is ridiculously skilled on the inside looks like... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEA2SRCPpkU[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnSKJwGmjvI[/ame]
Good lord... Rios is as crude as they come. He was awful on the inside, simply out-gamed his bigger opponent.
That would a WAR, Lucas is a monster. ...Arum won't allow that fight to happen tho, Oscar would love to throw Lucas in there with anyone because Matty is a throwaway fight for Goldenboy. He don't generate $$$ but is a problem for anyone in or around his weight class. But strictly from a fight fan, That would be an epic WAR while it lasts. Hell Alvarado Vs. Matthysse would epic aswell.
Yeah, well Abril doesn't have many fans, not even among Cubans. He didn't really defect from Cuba, he just won a lottery ticket to go to the States, so he can still go back to Cuba when he pleases, which gives him a lower profile. Plus he wasn't a top boxer when he was back in Cuba. The mistake RĂos and his people made against Abril was learning his resume from BoxingRec Had they investigated a bit more, they would have known it was not going to be easy at all.
he's not crude. he knows what he's doing in the ring and practices every shot he plans to throw, in the gym over and over again.
It's called having an iron chin and big punching power... It wasn't great. Didn't see many combo's coming off... He stop bodyshots & eventually knocked Alvarado back and hurt him FROM MIDRANGE with an overhand right... lmao.
Good win for Rios last night but he lost to Abril because of Abrils boxing skills thats it, Alvarado is perfect for Rios and all of a sudden everyone is overexcited about this win, Alvarado was dominantly outboxed by Prescott until Prescott gassed it was good fight between two very limited fighters end of story. Rios is not elite he is a b level at best and some people want him to fight Pac Floyd or JMM, he can not win a round against those guys and if he fights Pac it could be his last fight ever!!!
That's exactly what you should do against someone refusing to return fire. Swarm them. Who cares if you hit them clean or not. Keep something on him at all times. Activity is what won Rios the Abril fight. Abril stopped throwing punches midway through and stood in front of Rios. Rios didn't land much effective but he kept on throwing.
