Rios-Mitchell Possible for Dec 10 in California

Rios is too strong for JMM imo at this stage. kats had him in all sorts of trouble and would have taken him out if he had any semblance of a right hand, Diaz also had him working hard and taking shots before he got carried away and gassed slightly. JMM is old and has had a lot of hard fights - Im of the opinion that Pacs simply gona blow him away.

So a JMM after taking a serious beating, with floyd, kats left hook also in his legs, Rios stops him late. He does have a chance if he goes and commits to Rios' body, who by all accounts isnt too fond of body shots however i doubt he could risk stepping in over and over.

If Rios added some more head movement hes a difficult prospect for anyone at 135 / 140 imo because of his great engine, chin and heavy hands. Hes too strong for Mitchell but I think Mitchell would be smart enough to take it serious and wouldnt disgrace himself by any stretch. Hes a fighter after all, go fight. If he loses so be it but im sure he would be well rewarded for the trouble.

 

Quality fight. Win or lose, I love that Kev is willing to take these risks.

 

ripped guys tend not to swing in weight too much tho. take a look at some weigh in photos of rios - he looks seriously ill. Hes a big 135 fighter who can dry out and rehydrate quickly

I think Rios has a very good chance of beating Marquez. Thats the fight that will happen after Manny Pacquiao.

The fight I want to see him in is against Ortiz, and Marquez against Khan regardless of the result against Pacquiao.

Rios is SO overrated. Its a 50/50 fight. Kevin has the skills and heart to pull it off

 

He definitely does and he definitely would. Antillon is like a better John Murray.

 

The reason I say that is the guys picking Kevin to do well in a fight with Rios say fairly undefined things like “use the jab, keep him turning”. That suggests they haven’t watched much of Rios – he’s not Ike Quartey or anything, but he’s got a good jab which basically negates trying to turn him unless you are very good at it.

If I was Mitchell in that fight, I’d try and keep moving left to right, stay off the ropes, pop the jab and always follow it with a hook to the body. There’s no way that Kevin can compete with Rios for size and strength, so he needs an exit strategy for when Rios inevitably closes the distance. I’d use an uppercut then slide off the ropes.

Really, it’s all about trying to do as much damage to Rios’ body early. That’s the only way to survive his late rounds assault as Kevin gets tired himself.

Mitchell’s left hook would be an important weapon throughout, but this all assumes that Rios can’t counteract these things. Eventually he’ll be forced to engage.

 

Acosta vs John Murray would be absolute slaughter. I would actually be worried for Murray if that fight ever came off, his life would be in danger.

 

keep in mind folks rios comes into the ring as a light middleweight.

 

also keep in mind Rios more than likely has faster handspeed than mitchell.

 

Kev has no chance against a mini Margarito who blocks punches with his face:-(
