I hope he pads his record right up to being a centurion record wise, and ecliping Toney's 90 whatever fights
Is Roy treating all these fights like sparring sessions? Is that his new formula for success? Or is Roy going through a mid life crisis? Beating Huck sounds like a pipe dream to me...
You have appeared to of matured and stopped being an intolerable *******... What is this sorcery? :huh
To me back in 1999ish or 2001ish or so Roy could have wiped out the whole Cruiserweight division. I don't think he would have had any problems unifying the WBC,WBA,IBF during that time his biggest threat would have been Juan Carlos Gomez.
I have never been an ******* and I like to have spirited discussions with my pal Mind Reader :good I am opinionated which is what this place is for which is discussion.
I wish Roy would have fought Jirov. Or Gomez would have fought Jirov. Either or. So many missed fights at cruiser. Just a pit stop for most of these guys on their ways up, though the 90's did have multiple long time champions as noted above
I think he could have cleared out all the divisions he fought in except for HW obviously... But he didn't... We have been over the reasons, some of it is his fault but not all of it.
I just remember the same cliched parroting , and there becoming something of a clique around here which leaves a bad taste in my mouth whether it's in the office or a boxing forum. You seem to of disappeared for a while though, or maybe I just blocked the chin checking crew out of my consciousness for a few months ...
The deal he had with HBO he would have made the same money at Cruiserweight as the money was guaranteed. He could have easily gotten a Cruiserweight belt at any point between 1997 and 2003ish if he wanted to. Would have been a perfect stop for a fight or 2 after the Ruiz fight but I understand why he fought Tarver. Tarver basically stalked Roy and got under his skin and 'tricked' (not the right word but you know what I mean) Roy into fighting him
Its all good Rico.:good We have had some heated debates, but it is all in good fun.. I never take anything to offense, and don't mean to offend you either..:smoke
I still talk Chins as they are essential but I know what you mean I have been accused of being a 'Troll' but you go and look at the first page of the board and there are 2 or 3 real trolls starting tons of threads but I guess that is OK :roflatsch
Tarver was crawling in Roy's skin.. Absolutely.. To be honest with you, that is the fight I wanted to see besides Roy vs. Lennox.. Just because Tarver caused so much noise, I wanted Roy to kick his ass. As a Roy fan I know he could have done a lot more, and not been so bent on risk/reward... I am sure Roy would have taken some different paths had he got a second chance to do it all over.:yep
I loathe all trolls but some people are legitimately stupid and I find them more tolerable than obviously intelligent people that purposely rile other people up (How you used to be) Just my two cents. Purpose of this thread isn't to rag on your posting habits, past or present. Apologies.
Well he won the first fight the mistake was taking the rematch. I really believe Tarver got to Jones badly and Jones was too proud (not a bad thing) to let Tarver talk to him like he did.
If he would have retired after that first fight he would have basically been 50-0 save that stupid move where Griffin acted but Roy was rightfully disqualified. His career would have been viewed different. I think he beat Tarver close but clear in the first fight... He was weight drained, but that is no excuse... As an amateur wrestler that never weighed over, I don't buy professional fighters' weight excuses that make millions. He was in great shape for Tarver II, but McGirt thought he was slowing and helped Tarver see where he could catch Roy, and bang!
