Kovalev would try to outbox Jones in the center of the ring. Big mistake. I see Jones using the lead right hand profusely. The jab would only be used to trick Kovalev for the flash left hook. Jones can also work the body of the opponent like no one else. Kovalev is good in the early rounds but RJJ would have no problem extanding the fight past 7 rounds I think he would then toy with Kovalev. Jones UD
Kovalev didn't even have a hall of fame career and people are picking him against an all time top 5 P4P great? Pre Ruiz light heavyweight RJJ dominates Kovalev on his worse day. That's no knock on Sergey but there are some ridiculous comments in this forum.
Kovalev was good in his prime but one thing people always overrated about him was his toughness. He looked and talked like a really, really tough guy, but when things don't go his way he ALWAYS gets broken. He isn't and never wasn't tough inside the ring. Mean guy? Yes, but definitely not a tough one
There's another factor in this one which is undermentioned. Ward's blueprint to beat Kovalev was body shots, he used it and it worked, so did Canelo. Roy was a wicked body puncher, and not just the Hill fight, he set up well to the body and his cross downstairs was good. He'd destroy Kova's stamina then destroy him.
