I was very excited to know Roy was going to do the bit and hope to see more of him. Def has the gift of gab, even showed it in a few song of his...
Roy did great .. precise.. he also says whats going on quick. ....he don't drone on while the action is happening... everyone had space. They did seem to be testing him to see if he was "there".
i'm a huge fan of roy and his commentating....just glad lennox if ****en out of there hopefully roy stays.... he went two for two last night on calling exactly how the fights were gonna play out....
Roy showed some great insight, but he needs to be a bit calmer when speaking, his hyped up delivery was a bit jarring. And unfortunately, you can tell how much his speech has deteriorated from the last time he was a regular commentator.
I'm a big fan of Roy as a commentator. He's not a yes-man like Lampley and Kellerman. I hope he's there for good. He'll keep the other guys in line.
just as his fighting, his commentary is one step ahead of the others. he´s precise, knows his stuff and seems to know how the fighs gonna go, way before the others have a clue. very very insigtfull and knowledgeable, by far the best ive heard.
anyone else notice during the Vanes/Greene fight RJJ was saying something like "Hes going to go after him because he wants to test if he has a weak chiiiiin" then there was an awkard silence for like 5 seconds.
I noticed. I thought it was funny. Roy was great. A huge improvement over Lennox. No comparison. If HBO has any sense they will keep him for a long time. However, my friends and I had a good chuckle when Roy said that Yuri Foreman was the perfect "ris-recipe" to give Cotto trouble. Nice catch, Roy.
I really love George, and I agree with you he was the best. But he had an awfull night in the Trinidad vs Hopkins fight, (he was rooting for Trinidad clearly) and he was a huge Naseem hamed fan, so dont say never ever
Roy did a quality job, a lot of simple but good observations in trying to paint a picture for the viewer, for example his deal about Foreman's lateral movement preventing Cotto from planting his feet, and how he needs to be able to do it to land his power punches. Great chemistry aswell, I hope he calls it a day boxing now and lands the job full-time. What more could you want? Both a great commentator - both in his own right and collectively in his chemistry with the rest of the team - plus a star attraction.
I dont' think he was a huge Hamed fan, he was just trying to bring some balance to the broadcast because Lampley was pissing himself over Barerra. You could tell George got offended when Lampley actually stooped so far as to insult Hamed's faith. It wasn't even George's religion, but it when Lamps gets his pom poms out there's no telling how low he'll sink. He's the worst play-by-play man in any sport today.
