Guerrero hasn't been cherry picked. What other Welters would you like to see Floyd in with on May 4th? Kell Brook? Devon Alexander? JMM?

It's not really a cherry pick because Guerrero earned the fight but there is people that beat Guerrero at 147
Floyd has come out of prison he deserves a easy fight but after this if he doesnt fight the winner of Trout/Canelo then anyone else is a cherry pick

    By beating Berto?

I'd agree if he'd beaten Ortiz or Bradley, or someone like that. But he beat BERTO who had barely gotten back from losing to a guy Floyd handled comfortably.

    It's a cherry pick.

It's slim pickings. Ortiz got his the fight by beating Berto and then he loses to Lopez whilst Bradley is with Bob so he couldn't fight him. Who else is there for Floyd? :think

It's not really a cherry pick in terms of the welterweight division, and the Berto victory is enough to show he's at least on the same level as the best of the rest. Doesn't have Ortiz's hand speed or explosiveness but more ring smarts and stronger mentally.

Alvarez at 154 (that fight was available at the time)? Martinez at 160?

Ortiz was the first to beat Berto and I didn't think he deserved the fight.

Exactly. It's not a great fight but there isn't much at 147lbs for Mayweather.

Well the plan was that Canelo would by fighting him on Mexican Independence day in September but I don't know if that's went tits up now.:huh

Martinez at 160 lbs is a bit much imo.

This is what amuses me with some people who call Mayweather a cherry picker. Ask them who he should fight and they mention a middleweight. They are fine with Martinez facing a welterweight yet don't like it when Mayweather faces the likes of Hatton and JMM at 147lbs.

Lets be honest, whoever Mayweather fights people will always claim a cherry pick. Even more so now in the later stages of his career.

Moved up 2 weight divisions and beat 2 top 10 guys, who else has done that recently?
And who else is there at 147?

Agreed with that mostly. I'm of neither extreme, rather think he's a pretty good opponent with relatively decent chance at the upset, considering all context. If Floyd fights a greater opponent after, then this is a very acceptable 'tune-up' to that, in my view. But if he ducks the winner of Canelo/Trout or all of the few other relevant guys, well...then I'll just despise him that much more as a person and my rating of him as a boxer will further stagnate.

Whilst I reckon Guerrero deserves the fight and the payday, he should of beat a better opponent than Berto before getting it. If you ask me, after seeing what went down with Bradley in the last fight. That is the route Guerrero should of gone, before fighting Mayweather.

But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Looking forward to this fight to see if Mayweather was wanting to fight toe2toe with Cotto or if he is just slowing down . There were some rounds in that fight where Cotto was roughing Mayweather up and taking rounds worse than anyone has in years . Guerrero is a young , strong up and coming fighter can see this being a hard night for Floyd but him takin a clear points win .
