I know Im naive but when these fighters pop for trace amounts on tests they know theyre going to take, and deny it with all their being I genuinely do start wondering if its possible they were from contaminants.
If that's the case then all boxers or alot more, should pop for roids. Surely everyone has taken supplements.
I don't think so in this case at least, kirk. I'm one of the biggest fans of Sugar Robert Helenius and have been following his career closely almost from the start and watched all his interviews. When I saw the first interview of him after the positive drug test the impression I got was that he was lying. He actually did mention the supplements and the way he mentioned them seemed very unnatural, almost rehearsed. I do believe Sugar Rob did go his earlier career without roids and nothing really suggested that he was on them either.
Did they force him to fight AJ? Lol. And Wilder was not in the picture at the time as they were looking for the showdown on December 23rd.
He looked terrible the last time I saw him against Wilder. He never recovered from the shoulder tear. He was a savage puncher before that.
Robert Helenius was a talented fighter. I've still got a lot of films of his when he was younger. There was a lot of excitement around him. He had some excellent wins along the way. Faced and beat plenty of names. I was happy for him coming back, knocking off Kownacki twice, and climbing all the way back to the #2 spot in the WBA rankings. I also thoroughly enjoyed his fight with Anthony Joshua. He marked up both of Joshua's eyes with his jab before Anthony scored the great KO. Too bad it ends on a sour note. It would be cool if he could become a trainer like Damiani did. Maybe help another talented Finnish fighter climb the ratings and avoid the pitfalls.
