Absolute BS probably done to justify Joshua’s subpar performance against Helenius and to sell the Wilder fight. So what would have been the case? Helenius took PEDs to fight a journeyman in a 17th century castle? Did he have such low self confidence in beating a journeyman he took a course of PEDs? he has to cycle on and off the PEDs otherwise it would ruin his natural ability to create testosterone and most likely put him in a short state of anxiety and other negative symptoms? Would he gamble all that for a journeyman? He took the Joshua fight on less than 2 weeks notice, this whole thing stinks to the high heavens. Boxing is the most corrupt sport in the world.
Well seeing that the fight happened on less 5 days notice and he was tested the day before the fight I'm guessing not.
But weren’t we told by the British Forum that if a fighter failed a drugs test taken before the fight for Joshua, Hearn would never let them get in the ring with him? This again shows like with the Baumgardner failed test that there is a delay between taking the test and receiving the results. Again shout-out to Matchroom for having VADA testing in place. There’s a reason why other promoters don’t use VADA testing and PBC fighters only fight once per year! Again gives Joshua another bout of confidence knowing he produced a KO of the year against an opponent juiced to the gills. It was one of the best one-punch knockouts I have ever seen in my lifetime. @TBC-ASAP Matchroom were “open and transparent” when Baumgardner failed a test. Like I said they would have learnt a lot with how badly they dealt with the Benn failed test. They have done well responding to Whyte, Baumgardner and now Helenius failing tests. We all know these top fighters are on something and it’s good they are getting caught out. I don’t know why there aren’t any official guidelines for sanctions that can be imposed when a fighter fails a drug test depending on the circumstances.
If Helenius only took a UKAD test, he wouldn’t have been caught. Again this shows that VADA and even Drug Free Sport are much more extensive than UKAD. Another reason why Queensberry and Boxxer need to be investing in additional testing.
Some of the double standards in boxing are hilarious. Just reading Twitter and about half the posts are “look, Joshua KOd someone up to the eyes in PEDs, what do you think about him now” when we don’t even know what he’s tested for yet, how much, etc. he’s being hung out to dry with that saying-almost-nothing statement last night. Soon as Benn’s result was known it was “trace amounts”, “doctor advice was it would make no difference in the fight”, “didn’t fail other tests so must be a mistake” and so on. Same for Saunders, “would have passed if it was UKAD”, “misunderstanding”…
The lads moaning endlessly about boxers on gear really should take up a new hobby. Tiddlywinks might be more up their street.
Heavyweight is the least skilled division where fighters can progress just on their sheer size. I reckon this is why PEDS or rife in the division unless the lower weights are better at hiding it.. I doubt it, I think it’s just the big puddings realising their technical Abilities are limited
