I don't think it'd be easy, to be honest with you. If the Toney from the first McCallum fight shows up I'd back him to take a decision, probably. Then again I guess it would depend on what version of either fighter shows up. Stylistically Duran was kind of like Toney at this weight, actually. Toney's youthful athleticism is probably what gets him the win here, both at their best. Would be a very good bout, though, in my opinion.

 

In terms of talent you can make a case for James Toney being a top 10 Middleweight. Roberto Duran had a nice win over a good but not great Iran Barkely. Toney is also the bigger man. His best weight was 168, while Duran was best at 135 & 147. I can see this going the distance with Toney winning easily.

 

Duran fighting the way he did against hagler would atually frustrate Toney a lot i think.Toney doesn't really have the jab to rack up easy points and waiting on counter-rights and the requisite mistake material isn't the way to get to middleweight Duran.

I'd take Toney to win a close decision where neither man lands much, possibly even controversial.Duran fighting to frustrate and go the distance as much as win, like he did with Hagler.

Of course Toney is clearly better against the overall field at 160, but not really a good matchup for him to show his skillset here.

Toney loves lead/counter rights but he does have a good jab himself and I wouldn't rule him out sneaking those right hands in. I agree the 'Hagler' Duran makes a good contest of it. There would be plenty missed but both would mix it up, a technical battle, similar in a way to Toney-McCallum, although Duran quite different from McCallum. Toney's speed/athleticism/strength at the this weight would make the difference but it wouldn't be 'easy' as some say

 

I want to add boxing IQ to Toney's repertoire.

I think stylistically Toney is a bad match for Duran but it no way but it be an 'easy' win for Toney. Duran's best weight is at 135 but he was still top quality at middle but Toney's counter punching style i feel would give Duran quite a few problems and alost frustrate him and would end up in a close but unanimous decision for Toney.
