Bang on the money :deal Duran's the most skilled fighter there's extensive footage of imo. I think because he's mostly famous for being tough, rough and mean then the more arm chair level boxing fans think he was some crude brawler rather than the highly skilled defensive minded pressure fighter that he was.
ATG status is judged on the entire career and not based on one fight. Duran definitely fought and beat the better opposition than Floyd. Floyd should have fought his nemesis pacquaio years ago in his prime and try later in his career for somenody like Martinez or Golovkin at middleweight to enter the Top 20 or Top 10 ATG. Roy Jones did the same mistake in his prime . Though I give Floyd more credit than Jones
I'm going to have to catch a case... No **** it was a close fight, It's Leonard vs Duran lol. What did you expect? A blowout? As a matter of fact, Leonard was SUPPOSED to win. He was regarded as the best P4P fighter in the world by many, especially in his division. A combination of speed and solid power, never before seen. Great athleticism with clear physical advantages over Duran. HE LOST. That's fine . That's not my problem lol. Duran quit in the 2nd fight and the scrutiny is what he has to accept. I wont make sorry excuse for him like you. Still doesn't take away the fact that he beat Leonard . I really don't give a **** about the rest. I thought the point was to evaluate the fight? Leonard LOST against the smaller man. Even if it stings you. Duran quit in the 2nd for whatever reasons he claims. Just like Leonard had his reason why he lost . I'd figure you'd fall back on this argument, knowing that Leonard admits he tried to take advantage of Duran in the 2nd fight ha. I see you have no shame though. I thought Leonard would want to avenge his loss without any advantage? Beat Duran at his best? I guess Karma is a *****. Because even after Duran quit, it seems Leonard was never satisfied with his "win". 30 years later, he's still going to Panama asking Duran why. When it's all said and done, you can spin it how you want. The reality is Duran's win was more impressive and didn't need to take advantage of jack ****. And as for Duran legendary status, even after "No Mas"? He went on and took on GIANTS. Fought Hearns, took Hagler to 15 rounds, KO'd Moore and Barkley, all past his best, in weight classes he had no business in. Guy had nothing to prove. If NO MAS makes you feel better, that's fine. I wouldn't want you to have a mental breakdown either. Fact is you still don't have the W you want for Leonard. At least not the way Duran got his. Maybe you can join Leonard in his next trip to Panama and you can both ask him why? And for the record, since this was never a part of the OG discussion. Both Leonard and Duran beat Mayweather... Murder was the case that they gave me! Schools out....PEACE!
Exactly. It's hard to look "pretty" when you're on offense most of the time. These idiots don't realize the amount of skill it takes to be in the trenches constantly, while making guys miss, knowing you're in range to get hit most of the time. The ability to use his defense in that was extremely difficult.
And that means what exactly? Sorry but I've never bought into the "this guy beat that guy so he would automatically beats this other guy" speak. When I think about matchups(fantasy or reality) I simply look at what each guy brings to the table. Mental and physical. Only fighter I could ever favor over Floyd is the Hitman. He is the only one with the specific tools that would be EXTREMELY difficult for Floyd to overcome. Everyone else is fair game. Sorry but no one with Floyd's defensive ability can be counted out against anyone. Can Duran make Floyd fight his fight? Possible, but doubtful. If Duran roughs up Floyd will he give up? Floyd has shown that just because you may get the better of him from time to time it doesn't mean he will wilt away. Floyd has ALWAYS stepped up when faced with adversity in the ring so there is no reason that he wouldn't do the same against Duran. And why are you bringing up MW's. Floyd has never fought there. He can't even make the JMW limit. Can we stick to guys that have at least fought in the same weight class.
WTF kind of fanboy babble is this? :huh I'm a Duran fan, but 'No Mas' will be written in the 1st paragraph of Duran's obituary. Deal with it.
I never said it did! Head to Head to comparison - it is irrelevant. ATG status -it means a lot. Anyway, to come back to the subject of the thread, I am not arguing that Mayweather would not be competitive . In fact, Mayweather would land accurately and win some rounds. Ultimately, Duran with his pressure, body-head combinations, defense and chin would just be too busy for Floyd to handle. Duran will keep Floyd on the defense for a better part of the fight. Most importantly,Floyd does not have the power or punch out put to effectively slow down a prime Duran over the course of the fight. As for Hearns-not even worth discussing-either Flyod would lose every round or get knocked out
Duran top 30 Floyd top 5 the gulf in skill is tremendous. Floyd would beat Duran who was a flat footed fighter.
