After re-reading the OP, you are correct. I missed that. Having said that, I think you should also clarify which version of Mayweather you are talking about. I've seen numerous posts in this thread talking about Castillo and DLH, fights that took place in different divisions. Regardless, I still maintain that the 'Duran of Montreal' won't look like the 'Duran of Montreal' against an experienced, physically primed, multi-division title holder in WW Mayweather like he did against the 3 yrs pro, just turned 24 yr old Leonard. Because that version of Mayweather won't get goaded into a flat foot fight and in all likelihood approaches the fight with a similar strategy to what Leonard used in the rematch.
You're assuming SRL had a choice as to what strategy he could use. I think in the first fight he fought the fight that Duran imposed on him. In fact he was almost knocked out in the second round and spend the next 3-4 rounds trying to recover from that. Not sure if Mayweather would have recovered.
Neither of these fighters are beating a prime Duran. Arguello is not Hearns, and Pryor has too many defensive deficiencies.
Sure you would. PBF is arguably the best defensive fighter in the history of the sport. Duran couldn't brutalize Benitez who was a step below PBF in the level of defense and as a boxer but yet he would brutalize PBF??:rofl:nut PBF would frustrate the hell outta Duran he's a horrible match up for him. Duran isn't a robot he won't walk through every shot PBF hits him with you're delusional. PBF has the ability to keep Duran at bay superior reach speed reflexes and movement it would be Duran's demise. If PBF fights off his back foot against Duran there would be nothing Duran could do to stop it and he would probably say no mas for a second time.:deal
And you're assuming that Duran would be able to impose his will on the more experienced, more defensively oriented, prime aged Mayweather. Even if you accept the notion that Duran imposed that flat-footed strategy on SRL (I don't), the fight was still close on the cards, with some even believing Leonard took it. This is Leonard discusssing his frame of mind entering the ring that night (LINK) That sounds like a byproduct of inexperience. I don't that would be a problem for Mayweather.
I've seen plenty of Duran I've seen his apologist make excuse for his losses and claim he was unstopable and unbeatable in all his wins. I see a guy who struggles with speed reach movement and defense. If you come right at Duran or stand in front of him he tends to eat people alive with the exception of Hearns who damn near killed him but if you box move with good defense and a high ring IQ he could be outboxed and looks average. He was outboxed by Benitez and SRL for starters. I don't see Duran outboxing PBF who's a superior boxer, Duran is the superior fighter this match would be a boxing match not a fight. PBF will not engage Duran for long stretches he would use his superior speed and reach to get off first and move fighting at long range not allowing Duran to get to him. What people like you fail to realize is PBF doesn't care about appeasing the fans or proving a point he will do what he has to do to win. If that means running as a lot of you call it that's what he will do and Duran would have no answer for it. Look Duran is an ATG I'm not denying it but guys like PBF, Benitez and Pea Whitaker would always give him fits due to styles.
Of course you don't. PBF got shaken up against Mosley. He has a good chin and great recovery ability. If he gets hurt in the same round he often wins that round or finishes strong. PBF is one of the best conditioned athletes in the world with underrated toughness and his career suggest nothing like you mentioned would happen.
Well neither, of us is going to change each other's opinion, so there's no use discussing this with you further.
This is a joke. How many times has Mayweather been hurt and/or hit cleaning? The answer is not very many. So you're taking one instance, in which if Duran had done the same thing, would have most surly finished him off, to support his iron cast chin? You really are in worship mode. The fact is nobody really knows how Mayweather would do if he were hit by someone like Duran. Why? Because he's scared shitless of getting in the ring with Pac, who would if nothing else, hit him cleanly somewhere along the line. Why do you think so many people want to see this fight, because they want to see how PBF would react to getting hit and hit often.
Now Leonard, who was the champ by the way, was inexperienced. What's next? Look I don't make excusses for Duran's losses, like some do, and I sure as hell not making any excusses for SRL's loss.
I don't buy that Mayweather's a better boxer than either SRL or Benitez. Certainly SRL would beat him were they ever to fight, Benitez I'm not so sure about. Duran by most accounts is a top 5-10 ATG, Mayweather's no where near that.
Lol Duran? The slow podder, who threw wide haymakers all the time? With grace and elegance Floyd would outbox him and make him quit on his stool!
