Roberto Vasquez vs. Mario Briones RBR

So...uh...I guess that's over? :?

They went to and from commercial a bunch of times after the first round...very long break...and now they've cleared the ring.

Boxrec shows a TKO1 victory for Comunales. So...uh...Santana quit on her stool or something? Was there a cut? I honestly wasn't paying much attention to this one. Y'know...women's boxing and all (WBA lightweight title or no...)

Thankfully it was very short and we didn't miss much...

 

Round 1

Briones floats his left glove up top, not bothering to extend the jab as he tries to lob rights in on the southpaw. Vasquez stabs out with his right while circling, then squats down to make Briones lunge and miss overhead. Vasquez comes forward pawing his right jab, then leans back as Briones hacks at him a few times. The Mexican tries to pinpoint his left, hunting for Vasquez's head but finding it a slippery target as it drops and rolls. Right hook to the body and a cuffing one up top by Vasquez as he ducks and moves. Straight left by Vasquez to get off the ropes after Briones flurries into his gloves a bit.

Round 2

Vasquez is using a lot of herky jerky movement, making it hard to tell how many of Briones' lunging clangs are actually hitting him flush and how many are just ricocheting off his back. Vasquez is working that right hook to the body well, that much is for sure. Briones keeps walking forward, trying his best to dodge right jabs to the face. Not much he can do about the hooks to the body. Briones walks Vasquez back against the ropes and tries to unload on him with straight shots. Counters by Vasquez, right hooks and line drive lefts. Briones keeps dragging him into a firefight as they step out to the middle of the ring. Body shots by Briones. Clinch. Vasquez holds and whacks. Long right by Briones as Vasquez steps out. Clipping right hook by Vasquez. Several shots flung forward by Briones.

 

Round 3

Briones dives in with his 1-2 to the body as Vasquez circles to his right on the outside. Jabs and straight lefts working by Vasquez. Briones is backed up. Hooks to the body. Briones tries to fire back at him, but Vasquez's punches are much crisper and getting there first. Briones slugs away undeterred. Right hand by Briones. Vasquez throws a left while curling in upon himself by the waist. Briones pushes forward and looks to set up a big right hand. Vasquez loops a left at him while backing up. Vasquez is nearly backed into the ropes but holds Briones just at bay with his right jab.

 

Round 4

Vasquez is circling left, swooping in with uppercuts, jabbing and sliding back. Briones is firing the right hand over the top diligently and with full force, just not getting there. Lunging jabs by Briones miss. Vasquez threads in and out with his right jab. Head clash. Vasquez sells it. He gets time to recover. Stern lecture from the ref to Briones. Time in. Left to the body by Vasquez. Right hook up top. Briones is backed up, but fighting back. Vasquez keeps tapping the body. Briones now turns it up, and puts Vasquez back on the ropes with a right hand. Good Briones flurry until the bell.
