You got me flip flopping on that one now, too... Your accesments are good.. I think another thread needs to be strung out on this one.. why don't someone start one.. I don't want to be greedy...:happy
Maybe, but Tyson never was only 180-185 lbs like Rocky. And Tyson didn't lift weight for a ripped 5'10"/220 pounds body in his prime. I think Marciano was much more smaller than Tyson by muscle mass. Tua ? He was fat.Everybody can be fat.
You guys are obsessed with weight ... The Rock didn't need to gain weight for the fights he was preparing for... But if you want to go there here are some facts... Height and Weight are not the deciding factors in boxing. They do matter. But when a 220 boxer with great punching technique, good stamina and chin, meets a lazy 320 pound bum, it is the lighter boxer, who wins. Here are some examples: 1.) a 210 pound Joe Louis beating a 265 pound, 6 foot 6 buddy baer. 2) A 208 pound Holyfield beating a 245 pound Buster Douglas 2) A 260 pound Foreman, 3) A 265 pound Rid**** Bowe (In the second fight of the triology) 3) A 220+ pound Tomaz Adamek beating a 260 something Michael Grant (Who stands nearly at 6 foot 7 inches) 4) A 220+ pound David Haye beating a 320+ pound, 7 foot, Nikolei Valuev. 5) A 230+ Ruslan Chaglaev beating a 320+ pound, 7 foot Nikolei Valuev. 6) Chris Byrd's biggest opponent weighed around 282 pounds and yet Byrd defeated him. 7) A 210 pound Jack Dempsey defeating a 230 pound 6 foot 7 Jessy Williard. Boxing is not all about Power. Sometimes, technique, heart, and stamina pitches in as well.
All very well but Holy was 217 when he beat Bowe, and 215 when he beat Tyson. Not that it matters a jot, but seeing as he matches or surpasses everything Marciano has it is quite easy to accept that he would have every chance of beating the 185 Marciano comfortably.
So Marciano is the only ATG old timer incapable of putting on 5-10lb of muscle with modern supplements, food, weight lifting programs, taking in 200g of protein a day? I guess his 12-15 miles a day running, one big meal a day , no weight lifting allowed him to back on as much lean muscle as possible ? That training plan maximized his muscle growth correct? Come on Seamus
I think sometimes your weights are incorrect. 2.Holyfield beat a very fat out of shape Douglas.Douglas's best weight was about 230 lbs. Holyfield beat a 42 years old Foreman who couldn't knock out a glass-chinned fighters like Stewart or Morrison. Foreman's prime weight was about 220 lbs. Holyfield never beat a 265 lbs Bowe especially Bowe' best weight was 230-240 lbs. 3. Grant never was a big thing and he was far away from his prime. I don't know only one remarkable ko win by Grant. His power is overrated. He proved nothing. 6. Byrd never was impressive against the "big" guys.He couldn't beat a faded bad version Golota 7.Dempsey's 210 pounds against Willard ? How?Haha ! He was skinny like a little kid.
The biggest problem Marciano never beat a Tyson type very muscular, young, skilled ,champion quality prime fighter but Tyson could beat much more muscular taller, heavier champions than Marciano. The 37 years old weak version glass-chinned Joe Louis win proves nothing.
I can imagine only two type dreamfights. 1.Marciano 185 lbs vs. Tyson 220 lbs. OR 2.Marciano 210 lbs vs. Tyson 245 lbs The 210 lbs Marciano vs Tyson 220 lbs logic doesn't work. Too easy for the Marciano fans.
