It's not so much subtle effective skills, it's that his awkwardness worked for him. He was intelligent enough to set traps and exploit openings, close distance, create the angle...but he did it in an obscure way that worked. He made all of his negative aspects into positive aspects and maximised what extraordinary aspects he already had. Was he unbeatable? No. But he was determined and had an unbreakable will. He also retired before he degenerated. So nobody can say for sure what it would take to destroy him. He was a riddle. A successful one that retired before the code was cracked. Ali and joe Louis were better but Rocky has to be number three.

You have a closed mind, its possibly the certainty of youth.

If you see holes in my statements show them to us. Expose my lack of acumen about Superman.

This is it. He has some skills for sure, but you wouldn't call him a technician by any stretch. Great fighter tho obviously.

Is this some sort of Encounter Group?

What would Tom Sharkey say about all the feelings being expressed here?

I find it tiresome that what many people call worship is, as often as not, simply the temerity to argue that Marciano was a respectable lineal champion who was nowhere near as crude and his era nowhere near as weak as many insist. To be sure, there are Marciano fans whose hyperbole warrants the pejorative, but it's also clear that anything short of cavalier dismissal of his abilities and his competition is absolutely guaranteed to be labeled by some as "worship".
God help you if you if you're so quixotic as to suggest he might even have been great.

(Incidentally, I have no firmly resolved opinion on Marciano myself.)

The title of this thread is “Was Rocky a Face Forward Fighter.”

Not “Rocky was the best ever and could beat Ali.”

The attempt to turn that into hero worship exposes the blind hate people have for him.

They want you to fear being complimentary of Rocky, pressuring you into personal insults to discourage it. Lame, dumb, old, irrelevant.

    This is a gross exaggeration.

What is actually clear around here is that any discussion of any of Marciano's relative weaknesses or limitations as a fighter is guaranteed to be provoke ridiculous-to-the-point-of-bad-faith strawman arguments.

As you well know, the allegations of hero worship center around your controversial, revisionist assessments of Marciano's skills and abilities, not the title of your thread.

I find a long litany of "facts" to be an extremely tedious and inefficient way of arguing, because it tries to keep too much in view at once and only serves to wear down both parties, whether intentionally or by design. Unless the "facts" in question are all examples that converge in support of a single well defined proposition (eg. "You say no Croatian has ever been a top ten contender at middleweight? Well here are nineteen...")

Argue one distinct proposition at a time, don't provide a long list of items that support disparate conclusions. That almost always has the opposite of the effect you intend.

It's not even a slight exaggeration. Moreover my contention and yours are not disjunctive.

Would you mind directing me to some actual examples then?

Quote a direct example of what you consider hero worship.
