I don't like saying things too negative about Briggs because I know he used to post here, but I struggle to envision him being a long reigning champion in any era.

I think Foreman, Mercer and Lyakhovic are his only ranked victories.

The only argument for him beating Rocky is his size, which is why I picked Briggs for this thread.

Mainly to see where I fell in the debate.

Briggs was on the verge of knocking SHW ATG Lewis out. Briggs refused to stay down against that power puncher. This was not the same fighters that lost to Wilson, its obv. to see for anyone with half an brain.

Botha only lost to fighters like old Tyson (who still had power), Morer, Lewis and Wlad in his better years. A fighter that would easily be top-notch in the 50s.

Briggs beat Foreman. Beat Foreman in a fight where he fought too cautious, a still iron chinned Foreman.

Briggs reputation? 78% KO percantage, and over 80% of the fights he won. Refused to stay down against prime power puncher Lennox Lewis. The combination of chin and power alone gives a huge stylistic advantage against a come forward LHW attrition puncher.
The little fellow KOs him in 5? My *** he left the fight standing, ready to go in round 5 against LENNOX LEWIS....but sure, the safe bet would be Rocky by KO :duh

Fact is, evey time I watch the fight, I think to myself: "What a beating that guy could take!" George Foreman at the end in round 5: "He slipped down that time", exactly when the fight was stopped after Briggs fell from his own hook. He took a beating, but could have continued.
However, everyone with a common sense can see that THIS FIGHTER wouldn´t go anywhere from 185 Rocky attrition pitty pats. But what about Rocky getting brawled by 228lb pounds of quick muscle?

    Def taking Rocky by KO...
with Briggs workrate it wouldn’t be much of a brawling lol he’s a class lower then the other two and there no shame in that.

Briggs absolutely pressured Sergei in that fight. You could see the mounting desperation on his face as Briggs cut the distance, cut the ring and made him work harder to maintain distance. In a macro view, it is the same narrative as Marciano-Walcott, big hitter pressuring fancier fighter into smaller corners and KO'ing him. You might state that there was a different level in performance but not in effectiveness. The only difference is that Marciano has been beatified and his every performance enhanced by rosy hued memory into the work of an immortal, when upon objective viewing it is merely a guy with limited but excellent ability being at the right place at the right time. Kinda like Briggs to a lesser extent. But same narrative.

If you dismiss Briggs performance in winning the belt, you dismiss Marciano's, also.

Yeah Marciano stops him but Vitali Klitschko threw everything at him including the spit bucket and couldn't even floor him .Hitting him with countless flush punches , and Briggs was a month off 39 years old.
Maybe common sense ain't that common.

Making a factual observation. You'll know it when/if I try to pick a fight with you.
The referee of the Vitali fight lives about 10 miles from me, poor third man.
SMH? I know I'm going to regret the question.
Marciano's an attrition puncher ? Heresy!
Wilson was a very good puncher, 21 kos in 27 wins and typically 30lbs heavier than Marciano.
NB I tried to fight him years ago, he bailed out after challenging me,another factual observation.
